Got my PFT results and cannot decipher them. All my doc said was emphysema on this test. Diagnosed with COPD back in 2008.
FEV1/FVC% actual 75 pred 78 %pred 96
Test comments: there is mild air flow obstruction. normal lung volumes. elevated RV and RV/TLC. elevated RV c/w airtrapping. decreased ERV obesity and decreased diffusing. WHAT does this mean??
I have tried to read how to interpret results but I still don't understand. There is nothing on the test to tell me normal ranges.
Thanks for any input. please don't refer me to read on wikipedia...I don't compute their language.

Actually the "normal" value is there - it's called "pred" for predicted and it is based on your height and weight. The %pred is percent of predicted and is a measure of how close you come to your "normal"

ya got me to get mine out again & try to figure it out.
i srill don't "get it" so i have to just trust my dr on what he tells me it says LOL
i guess it's like xrays or any other dr report, i get copies for my records, but i have to trust my dr to explain all the technical jargon.
ps question= i've had several over the years & each was done before & after treatment of albuterol ...i thought it was mainly showing if the med helped or not= if it helps its asthma if it doesn't it's emphysema???

My pcp told me the laser is the latest cutting edge treatment for emphysema. I am going to check it out. She also said my pft looked bad...whatever that means.
