As for preparing for your next visit, make notes on how you are doing everyday things, such as walking, exercising, sleeping, etc. That's important. And be sure to write down any questions that you have, especially concerning your meds. Good luck. I hope you have a good visit.

I have kept a journal and have rated my shortness of breath. Not sure if I have gotten worse. I am figuring out triggers. I
can't do pulmonary rehab. Three times a week for three months. With work, I don't have the time. I am doing a 3 hour crash course at the hospital. Plan on working out an exercise plan etc.

I am on Combivent and Symbicort (w/Flonase & Zyrtec for my seasonal allergies) and with those good results, these will be my meds until I see her again in 6 months.
I did tell her that I am walking alot and exercising in my home and doing breathing exercises to strengthen and expand by lung wall muscles. Those I find very invigorating.
I also use an obivously children's peak flow and I like it and my doc said it was fine to use, just don't overdue it. COPD is somewhat a mind game and those readings (good for me is 250) and my pulse ox meter reassure me when I think I'm not doing so good and voila, I actually am just fine (maybe the barometer is falling or a storm is approaching or I'm a little stressed about something and not breathing deeply enough).
So ask you doc about those meds I'm or and have you had any kind of repiratory therapy and would he recommend it and is it in your area.
Exercise is absolutely key to managing COPD.
Hope this info helps. Best of luck! Barb
