Is anyone on prednisone ?? If so, for what and with what results ??

Prednisone is an anti-inflammatory drug and thus deals with inflammation of the conducting air passages in the lung. Inflammation may be present in both asthma and COPD.
I was on them for pneumonia a couple times

Unless prescribed by a doctor when there is nothing else to help prednisone is mainly prescribed in COPD patients when there is a lung infection or as determined by a GP. It helps patients to breathe easier when symptoms are exacerbated and it calms inflammed airways and lungs as mentioned it is an anti inflammatory and immunosuppressant.

Its not a medication to use daily unnecessarily, long term it damages bone health, and comes with other not so good side affects when used long term.

Prednisone provides relief for inflamed areas of the body. It is used to treat a number of different conditions, such as inflammation (swelling).......It is a corticosteroid (cortisone-like medicine or steroid). It works on the immune system to help relieve swelling, redness, itching, and allergic reactions.

Used in combination with other medicines for community acquired pneumonia or as a daily maintenance medicine for some that are more severe in their disease.

There are many side effects that differ from person to person but the main concern is it might cause thinning of the bones (osteoporosis) if used for a long time. Tell your doctor if you have any bone pain or if you have an increased risk for osteoporosis.

Thanks. PA prescribed it for some reason, guess just scatter shot medication for multiple problems. It made me really sick. Am 87, have emphysema, very hi blood pressure, acid reflux and neuropathy, And keep getting hay fever every time I go outside. Spent the entire winter indoors to avoid the flu, now can't go out because of the pollen. Whole thing is a mess, getting very irksome, guess I won't make it to 88. Can't walk, eat or breathe anyway, what's the use ??

I have had to take prednisone for lung inflamation....it works well it.but it makes me feel ill most times ..thins my skin and causes lots of side effects
