((((Roe))) I hear what your saying....Geeez....I am thinking the same thing and plan on speaking with my doc about this....My electric bill is huge its rediculous....Someone mentioned to me the possibility of changing from a concentrator to a reservoir not at all sure how it all works just yet but from what I understand it does not run by electric...I am sure someone here will be able to explain this to us....I hope this is the case because I cannot continue to pay these bills and yet what are we to do when we need the O2? Thank you for this question its one I also really need an answer to....Hugs

Good morning Roe.
Of the three choices of supplemental 02, only the concentrator uses electricity. The liquid and compressed do not depend on electricity.

I understand that electricity is extremely high in your area so I would ask your doctor if you could change the method that you use.
Possible complications with your insurance or supplier, I can't address but it would be worth your effort to check.

Anna's right - liquid oxygen is the way to go - at least for the daytime. I use my cancentrator at night, when the rates here change. It will go further if you can use it "on demand". Talk to your doc. Hugs, DOnna

some gas and Electric companies give a break to people on a disability. Our PG&E Company has a program called Care. We save about 20% on our bill. Check and see if your area offers this.Good Luck!

Some people don't have medicare and have to pay for liquid oxygen out of pocket. How much is it, I heard it was expensive?

Before I was granted my insurance I had to rent my concentrator by the month...$200.00....then for every 5 -6 hours of air for my take along tanks $10.00....I was more mobile and active then....Paying for air to breathe! Lawd have mercy!!

My mom has liquid O2 and her service carrier charges Medicare a whopping $640 a month for unlimied fills on her big tank, and her portable Helios. Medicare only allows and pays about $150 a month. They accept anything Medicare sends them without charging Mom any leftovers. Mom hit her 3-year commitment with her concentrator, then her Doc changed her to liquid O2, her rental service let her have the concentrator as a backup to her liquid O2.
P.S. We live in a resort area, so our prices are HIGH..probably close to CON ED. No harm and call around. See what available there.

When I got my big oxygen concentrator (years ago)
it doubled my electric bill. The good part is that
I live in a small apartment, so I do not have to
use heat in the winter; as the concentrator heats
my living area. The bad part, is in the summer;
when I have to run my air conditioner 24/7. My
summer electric bills are huge. I have to have
cool air to breathe. When I get hot, I feel like
I am smothering. My car has NO air conditioning;
so I stay in as much as I can, during the summer
months. Plus, Katie, LOVES riding in the car;
and I can not subject her to the heat. It would
probably kill her to take her in the car during
the summer. Sometimes, for a treat, I take her
out about 5 am; just for a car ride. LOL

As I replied to your other post yesterday, liquid oxygen does not use electricity which would be a savings to you. Have your doctor write you a prescription for liquid oxygen and you will not only save money, but will be able to have a lightweight portable system.
