Feel that I could answer most questions about supplemental O2; however more is needed to respond to yr question.

1) Has your Doc recently put you on O2...is it only for nite time use??

2) If so, are you using a home concentrator?

3) What is the number for the air flow setting ?

That's what we are here for to gain and share info with each other.

Yes, kberber, Whatsauname is right...more info is needed. Are you talking regular oxygen or c-pap machine?

I have severe emphysema. I was feeling exhausted all of the time so they did a pulse ox study at night. My o2 sats were going down to 81 per cent. I have been put on a home concentrater at 2 liters nights only. Last night was my first night. I did not sleep that well with the noise. Hope it gets better.

Your Pulmonary Doctor should have explained this to you at the time of your spirometry test. If he didn't you might want to call him. If your Stats are that low you may need it more than just at night. Just sayin'

I think most of us have started w/ 2 flow for nite time use only. Yes, the equipment has a constant humming noise, it could be a problem if you share a bed or bedroom with someone else. If you consider the job that machine is performing, then you will adjust to the sound effects and even become comfortable w/the hum. Maybe you could put the equip in a hallway (never in a closet). The concentrator does generate some heat , this is usually OK in the winter (cozy) but not what you want in the summer (time for the hallway?) Clean the filter weekly, it just needs a quick rinse. That's about it.......nothing else special that I can think of.

Remember, its a new experience and a little scary at first.

BTW/ It is advised that we should NOT change the flow setting without consulting the doctor.

We all have a different sensitivity to noise. Im partially deaf so dont notice a lot of background noise, but when I received my first concentrator I too was bothered by the noise. I discovered that most of the problem was where it was placed. I had it against the wall between two bookcases, on a hardwood floor treating it like a piece of furniture. I later moved it to the end of my bed, placing it on a piece of shag carpet, the bed tended to dampen the sound while I was in bed.

I also had a piece of equipment that I had to place on a nightstand next to my bed it proved very annoying. What I didnt realize was I was putting it on top of what is essentially nothing more than a hollow echo chamber. Placing a sheet of hard foam underneath the equipment resolved the problem.

So try moving the concentrator around forget dcor it is likely you will find a spot where the sound will not be quite so annoying.

I have my concentrator in another room where I can shut the door and barely hear it. It's on carpet. I think you'll eventually get used to the noise unless it's on a hard floor. If that's the case, you might want to put some padding under it.

Your oxygen concentrator noise will become something you are used to soon. If i has been checked by your supplier and is only making he humming, off on sound, that is normal. Good luck with it. It will become such a part of your life soon you ill sleep well, but will wake up if you DO NOT hear it.
