Do you use oxygen during the day? If the doctor put you on it at night I don't think I would want to go that long without it. Best thing to do is call your doctor and ask his advice..

Your concentrator will fly for free in baggage on most major airlines. You need to call the airline and ask what forms you need to download and will need your dr's confirmation of your COPD and a signature on the form. I always bring mine when I travel. Just in case you start losing your breath and its there for you.

At night our respiration slows down, so unless you want to die in your sleep, take your O2 with you. I'm on 02 also and wish for one night without it however, I realize the only way that will happen is if I take the gamble of not waking up. Remember the runner Flo Jo, Florence Griffith Joyner, she was an Olympian and she had asthma. She died in her sleep. Please take your 02 with you and enjoy the days and nights with your daughter. Hi, If you use oxygen at night you need to stay on it. You can not just get off it for 5-6 days to practice doing without!!
You may not wake up to catch the plane.
When you get to your daughters, you will need it at night there also, so I do not know how you would rent some in another state , nor do I know if they would accept an out of state prescription written by your doctor.
None of us like to be burdened with oxygen. but it is what is keeping us alive, and you should take it seriously, not just assume you can be on and of as you seem fit.
You can take your concentrator with you , as Jackie said, or rent a portable but make sure it does continous dose, because you need that at night and lots of rentals only do pulse dose.
I say this because I do not know if you have a big clunky one from a medical supplier, or a smaller portable.
My medical supplier will make arrangements to have oxygen delivered to my destination, so you might try calling yours and see if they do that.
All this will need doctors permission, so talk with him first, and tell him your situation, and ask him if it is ok to do without for 5-6 nights. That is not why he put you on it, but if he says yes, then go for it, if he says no, then check out the other options, shipping yours , asking him can you rent it there, asking your medical supplier what they can do.
What ever you work out, have loads of fun with your daughter, and keep warm!!!

PS for the lights on mine, I lightly taped a piece of cardboard over the lights. Can not do anything about the sound, and I want it close enough to hear the alarm if necessary.

Also, if it is in another room and your daughter has small kids, they might play with it and turn it up or down, so you need to keep it close to you where you can watch it. My grandson thinks mine is a rocket ship, but he has learned not to touch it

Oxygen saturation drops during sleep and can drop very low. If I were you, I would make arrangements to have oxygen while out of town.

I did a trip to Florida one time and my 02 company had the concentrator delivered to where I was staying. I wouldn't go with out it. One time I took my concentrator with me and it broke and my o2 provider had another one there in 5 minutes. I hope you have a great time with your daughter and enjoy your stay.

You did not say how long you are staying, but if just 2-3 days, rent 2-3 tanks there if flying, or if driving take them with you. I keep 3 tanks on hand as a backup to my concentrator anyway in case of power failure.

ditto everyone else. sleeping is when everything slows, especially our breathing....i wouldn't chance going without it.
as others have said, my provider also will send any supplies i need to where i am going & have it there waiting

BTW; what lights? mine just has a little tiny green light on it that puts out less light than a digital clock? (fingernail size peice of black electrical tape would cure that ;)

ditto everyone - definitely talk with doctor b-4 going without it BUT like everyone says - most oxygen providers will have your equipment waiting there for you at your destination if you set it up ahead of time. I agree with most of the replies you received. My oxygen company will deliver oxygen to my destination; with an exact address. Enjoy your trip.

Thank you all so much for your comments. I have a call out to my supplier!! My daughter will be happy. She wasn't too pleased with me when I told her I could do without it while I was there.
You are a great bunch of people and I appreciate all your posts. I feel bad even asking about something so small since there are so many of you that have worse issues than whether or not to use O2 for a few nights.

great2bme= i think it was a great topic that you brought up. i know i need my 02, but sometimes i wonder if "just this time'' i can go without it somewhere.
good reminder to anyone that may be traveling this holiday that 02 may be annoying, but we still need to plan that annoyance.
i think that those that need it only at night also have a tendency to not realize how much they need that 02; where those that wear it during day see the drops when we check our pulse ox.

Lots of great advice and my 2 cents worth is that I've been on O2 at night for 3-1/2 yrs at 1 Liter. Great night's sleep. As others have correctly noted, all humans' O2 drops as respiration slows in sleep. I've found when I doze during the day, I wake up suddenly - probably because of the drop.
I don't find it inconvenient at all and I've enjoyed reading others' comments about travelling w/O2. You need to notify the airline WELL in advance to set it up, but people do it all the time. You'll need it more than most as the planes pressurize at 5,000 to 8,000 ft and you've been at sea level for so long you would feel it on the plane.
Check with your supplier, but Lexington KY is a big city and I'm sure they'll locate you a concentrator AGAIN, if you give them enough time.
