I think COPD is the bastard child of smoking related illnesses still.
Fortunately there are people, Danica Patrick comes to mind who are attempting to raise COPD awareness.
Yes it's still legal, and if made illegal, it will just generate an underground market. It's a choice. Sadly, kids feel they're invincible, just like we did when first lit up. What's disturbing is that those of us here who contracted this younger, we are the victims of the Tobacco companies amping up the addictive nature by way of..I forget how they do it..posted a link a while back. I know guys. Remember when we were told that cigeretts would kill us? I was never told about the addicition and that really gets me po'd for the stupid kids today who are playing around with regular cigrettes and the e cigs. Just saying.

That's what I'm talking about Lauren. There is a difference between being stupid and ignorant. These e-cig companies are preying on the ignorance (not knowing) of minors and it's wrong. If Adults don't know the danger then I say to them, Ignorance of the law is no excuse. As Adults we (at least some of us) are equipped to gather info and make decisions, whether they be stupid (knowing the dangers) and continuing the behavior. Thanks Lauren.

Still smoking is a choice and everyone knows the dangers. Then when folks get sick they whine "why me", when they caused it themselves.

However, no one will do anything about it because it produces State and Federal Taxes, not to mention the folks that have stock in them.

I hear smoking is more addictive than Heroin. I guess that is because it is easier to get and cheaper.

In May I will be quit 7 years, I have paid the price everyday for it.

I, for one, have a tremendous problem with making choices for other people that are not mine to make. For those who smoke, I can only hope that their genetic makeup does not have this diseases in store for them. I have a much loved sister and 2 daughters and 1 niece, all of whom have chosen to remain smokers. It is their right and when they come to visit, they know there are ashtrays around the house - away from my oxygen of course. I also agree with Promises that you would only create another great criminal black market althoughh I do not feel I am anyone's victim. I did it - it was my choice not some imaginary company. If I am totally honest I have to admit that now & then, and we're talking months between times, still do light up one.
I am happy we are trying to raise young people to be non-smokers for the future but I will not be judgmental of those who still smoke. Ruthie - aka dollaraudit

I'm not being judgemental either. I have never ever told a smoker to quit! I'm just saying, it hurts me to the core to see this kind of thing on the news as just a bleep with no real info. Breaks my heart to know there are young ones out there who will probably walk my path. Don't wish it on my worst enemy if i had one. Yes, I kept smoking even when it took me three hours every morning for many years to finally come out of being sob. Again, makes me sad to know that these kids don't know what lies ahead from the addiction!

Grannie, you are confused. I quit the Smokers Board sometime ago and if you'd bother to read my poster, you'd know why. Like I've said before, no one is whining here. This is a support group and we love people til the end. Congrats for quitting smoking seven years ago. Maybe some people have given up or whatever their reasons are who are you and anyone for that matter, to be in judgement. Smoking is a choice. Who is disputing that??? You keep doing what you do, and I'll keep doing what I do.

I really didn't mean to start anything. I just got a little mad because the media didn't share info on the adductive side of smoking and the effects of copd & emphysema. Speaking for myself again, I stopped smoking three years this coming July and don't or will ever say anything anytime to any one who still choose's to smoke. My best friend for over forty years is still a smoker and I say NOTHING to her! Same for my 29 almost thirity year old daughter who is still smoking menthol cigeretts and does have health issues!

Lauren, you didn't start anything other than a discussion. This is not the first time and it won't be last about this smoking issue. I'm not the only person on here that continues to smoke. I'm just brave enough to subject myself to the wrath of the ex-smokers. I joined, then quit the Smoker's Board sometime ago and posted my reason for quitting MONTHS ago. Like you, I'm all about the YOUTH which is what my BAN THE E-Cigarette was all about. I don't want them to experience an ounce of what I'm whining about. Don't lose any sleep over this. Lord knows, I won't.

On the same page as you Jackie Ono even though I don't smoke. Gotta tell you still get cravings. Only thing that keeps me from taking a puff is knowing the hard work I went through with the nicotine addicton and putting the cigs down. Don't want to go throught that again! Why I posted this !!

As I found years ago (before I dumped TV), MSM doesn't tell the truth and will only tell the story they care about or are told to care about.
That being said, there is legislation in the works ( local, state and federal) to ban the sale of e-cigarettes to minors. Which will do nothing to slow it down.
Man is a contrary animal. It does what it wants and there usually isn't anything short of incarceration, death or a miracle that is going to change ones mind.
I've shown my sons and grandchildren the consequences of smoking. they all still smoke along with most of their wives and one grandson. But until the pain of quitting becomes less than the pain of smoking you are not going to get much of a response from many - just us ones that it is often too late for...

I tell my son every time I see him. If he doesn't quit he will wind up like me. I'm his future if he keeps smoking. I will do this till he quits and feel no guilt what so ever. If he finally quits from my badgering I will feel fine, if he doesn't well at least I tried.
