Olive oil is more expensive, but is worth every penny. It is the key ingredient to the Mediterranean diet, known for longevity and good health. EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) is a monounsaturated fat and is loaded with antioxidants, flavonoids and polyphenols which help prevent disease.

Just found this and came on here to send it to Granny since she was asking about nails, so I'll share it here too.--Copied & pasted: "Most of us know the importantance of keeping your cuticles healthy and clean. For those that need a tip: apply coconut oil on your cuticles and it will help make your nails incredibly healthy and strong!" Have not tried it directly on my nails, but will because they need something.
My cats love it. Discovered by accident--one of them always watched me when I put it on my face, so I put a clump in my hand and held it out and she ate it right up. After a while the other two caught on and love it too. I tried it melted & poured over their food. But they did not like it like that.
Now I'm gonna add olive oil to my diet, too.
olive oil is more for cancer & heart isn't it?
and coconut oil better for copd?
eother one sure cant hurt to add to diet i think.
Always something new to learn here.
Hugs, Cindy

a bottle of virgin coconut oil has so uses & a little bit goes a long way both cooking with it & using it for dry skin etc.
great stuff!
There is a wide range of the more exotic oils which are now so popular for cooking, in origin, total ingredients, and refinement. All of them vary widely in their Smoking Point, but in general most have a lower smoking point and lower specific heat. The Smoke Point is the temperature at which the oil decomposes possibly creating toxic compounds and altering the chemical chains. The lower specific heat means these oils go from hot enough to cook to smoke point very quickly.
That makes using these oils - NOT a simple replacement, but also a need to change how you cook. You have to use lower temperatures and attention to the temperature while you cook, or you may in fact end up manufacturing and ingesting toxic substances.
Frankly, IMHO, the healthiest alternative is to use one of the many varieties of Lard and practice moderation.
