Hospitals especially will try and move patients to different floors to combine staffing, sometimes moving patients out of ICU or Step down too fast and not due to their condition improving but as a staffing assist.
Sad that articles like this may prove what nurses have complained about for years.

I think its important to remember that more people service ICU than dont, even on the weekends.
more people survive ICU than dont, even on the weekends.
I can remember as a teen, whenever there was a church youth group, or high school bonfire, I'd get really sick, especially because of all the molds in the wood or leaves.
Regarding the 1st article, I think this is one reason that so many hospitals try to push people to go home before a holiday. Yes, it's scary, but at least at a hospital you have some access to what's needed, even if they have to helicopter you out to it.

Biomass fuels, yes, but also think of the fossil fuels and cleaning up the spills. The Spill is going to be a global "health" crisis. Let alone crisis period - not just a "gulf" problem.
about fuels...i know it's sick..but i used to like the smell of gas when i was filling the tank! not that i deliberately sniffed it..but i did smell it...long inhales! hehe
JUST WATCH OUT FOR THOSE BACK YARD BURNS THEY DO SMOKE TOO.
In addition I believe it has been known for a long time that the burning of chemically treated and non chemically treated crops / woods cause serious health problems. There has been connections in the past with lung damage and motoneuron disease where people work and live within close proximity of these burnings. Motoneuron diease is awful muscle wasting and death is usually pretty quick in comparison to COPD.
Bee do take care with breathing in all the burning smoke / fumes - it is highly detrimental to your health / lungs - smoke is harmful to the lungs and doubly so if it has any chemicals present.
Take good care all.
Thanks for sharing this awareness Holly.
