is the sars the "super virus" that they have been talking about on the news?
ii read a thing that we are "too clean" in america, with our antibacterial soaps & stuff that we aren't building natural immunities to things any more.

You betcha on that. I've had multiple exaerbations that would have driven me to a hospital, but for my pulmo doc giving me the meds I need and how to use them when that occurs.

If you ever have to go to the hospital, and I pray no one does, bring lots of sanitizing wipes, gel, and wipe the bed rails often, the food tray, the chair you sit in, the remote, phone, everything you can touch, had been touched by others. I even wipe the toilet ans sink after the maids clean them.
Do not be afraid to speak up if a nurse waltzes in your room and starts checking your body for something, to ask her to sanitize her hands first, before she touches you. Most will smile and say thanks for the reminder, some will look at you like you are nuts, but will do it because they know they are suppose to.
Hospitals are horrible, and here are some things they never sanitize between patients,,,the blood pressure cuff, stethascope, o2 meter, and the like. Some are getting better at this, some are not.

Maybe I'm being too picky, but I'm somewhat hesitant to go to the pulmonary rehab exercise class at the hospital now!

At my pulmonary rehab they have these little dispensers of antiseptic foam scattered around the room. We have to use them on arrival, and between machines. Of course not all do, so I just carry my own gel in my pocket and slap it on between machines . I make sure the trainers use it also. But folks come in there just coughing their head off and say oh, it is not contagious!! So there goes the mask!! The problem would not be so bad if everyone would wash their hands and keep the gel handy,or wear a mask if they are coughing, but some folks seem to thing their germs are not harmful!!

mamaemoe; i have wanted to go to pulm rehab so bad, and i should hope that working with COPD patients they have the smarts to keep it sanitary...now i'm more worried about it because i don't want to aggravate my herniated discs or other physical problems i have.
BJ; do they sit down with you & make "a plan" of what you can physically do and not re-hurt yourself of other problems that you may have???

Jarca, they have the orders from your doctor and they start you out slow and tell you to let them know if it ever hurts or gets uncomfortable beyond the normal exercise soreness. If it does you can stop and do something else or just go home. We had one lady there that was in constant pain and it got worse the more she did, and he had to slow her down a lot. She recently graduated from the class, and because she missed out she elected to take maintenance exercise 2 days a week. They work your butt of if you can take it, but if you are n pain or can not do the exercises, they understand and work with you. At least mine do where I am going.
