I find myself waking up about 3 a.m. morning being somewhat short of breath. I am on oxygen at night 2 ml. When I get up in the morning I have more mucous production and I have to work harder to get it to come up. Most of the time there is a small amount of bad color. (I've mentioned the color to my pulmy and he hasn't seemed concerned.)

I know more mucous is a part of the disease progression. But I'm wondering if this is normal, may be co2 retention or what. I am getting a new pulmonologist on 9/27. He supposed to be nicer and more available.

Prior to June I was taking NAC and vitamin C and I thought that helped. My primary dr. won't let me take any supplements since I had the off the charts liver enzymes in June.

Just wanting input/suggestions.

I have the same thing every morning:(............I just figured it was cause my lungs were asleep all night and things had time to build up...................so its my job to cough it all up for the first several hours I am awake.................then I need a nap ..........and the whole cycle starts all over again:(

I will be interested to see what others have to say..............

Mine is normally clear/translucent. When it goes green or brown I have a lung infection. For me this is a quicker tell-tale than anything else and immediately starts a round of antibiotics - as dictated ny my doc. It's kept me out of the hospital on more than several occasions.
Sounds like a real good thing that you are getting a new doc...

i know this is a waste of time but I always keep trying. I have no problem coughing up the flem because I occasionly use sski and no lung infection in ,my girlfriend says five yrs. I don't keep track of time as well as she does.

I am not on O2 personally but whenever my phlegm gets really bad I take some Mucinex. Sounds like an oxymoron I know but it thins out the mucous so you can get it out better. The doc told me to take it every day as a regular thing but it's too darn expensive.

Dogman, yes, I have been getting the pop ups. Very annoying aren't they?
