muco mist?

my pulmonologist prescribed N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine to help express mucus. he calls it muco mist (spelling?). the prescription was too expensive, but the pharmacist told me that it was an over the counter medicine. i found it at GNC and they call it NAC 600. it seems to help make the mucous more fluid which makes it easier to cough up.

my question is to the group is if anyone else has had any experience with this?

Don't use it myself but on other boards for COPD many are on it and find it helpful. Seems like it either works or doesn't.
But hang on and I'm sure one of our intrepid googlers will quickly post some random article they find

Barney, if you use the search feature above, you will find some of the comments made by members here.

I have heard it mentioned by other people not on this board and they seem to be ok with it but we are all different so I wish you the best.

By other people not on this board I am referring to people that I went thru pulmonary rehab with and they are usually a pretty good source.

My doctor's PA prescribed 600 mg twice a day. He didn't say anything about taking Vitamin C with it, yet a lot of online sources state you should take 2 to 3 times as much Vitamin C with it. The problem is, the daily upper limit for Vitamin C is 2000 mg.

I'm not going to use it anymore until I talk to my doctor or a phamacist about the Vitamin C dilemma.

Google NAC and Vitamin C, then google Vitamin C overdose and you'll see what I mean.

Oh, btw, NAC works. I think it works better than Guaifenesin (Mucinex).

I had never heard of N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine before today, but I think ill give it a try too.

it is good to do a little research on muco myst (NAC).....the normal dose is 1200mg/day....one tablet in the morning, one in the evening. but start out for a few days with just one....also if you decide to quit taking it and you have been using it for more than a week, you need to wean off instead of just stopping altogether.
