Hi Gary...pretty difficult to answer your question as you know we are so different, so i can only speak for myself...

I follow a home management program that depending on the infection, i take 2 weeks of antibiotics and 5 day, 40mg pred. with no taper.....But my last flare was still bad after 4 days and just made it to hospital and 5 day holiday....so it did not work out this time..

Usually it clears within 3 days and has always done so....but mind you, it has been a sputum change indication, so needed the antibiotics also.

I was doing a 5-10mg daily pred. dose but stopped now......Hope someone can answer you as i really do not know.....

I've taken a low dose taper pack along with an antibotic a few times and each time I've felt better quickly (within a couple of days). I hope it works as well for you as it does for me.

I don't quite know what the methylprednisolone taper dose is but I have taken prednisone along with my antibiotics for 6 years now (for an exacerbation.) I usually take the 7 day antibiotic with 50mg pred. for 7 days and then 3 days of 1/2 the pred. I have never had any problems. When I am not feeling up to snuff I will do a week of the low dose of 1 1/2mg and then taper off by 1/2 that a tablet a week at a time and the nothing. I know some people have had longer taper off of the high dose but I never really did. I just have trouble finding enough different antibiotics that work. But I love my prednisone - I feel the effects within 3 days. Good luck

I was put on 40 mg. Prednisone for 7 days. Reason, out-of-breath walking across a room I was amazed it worked within 24 hours for 7 days I felt 20 years youngerthe energyI could breathe! Now back in 5 mg. per day & out-of-breath, again!
