I am a 47 yr old man with COPD, severe. Just got it 10 years ago, as both my siter and I have alpha anti trypsen deficency. I am extremely depressed the last few days, and I dont know how to shake it, or who to talk to. When I was healthy, many years ago, I would go womanizing or get drunk to shake feeling this bad. My dear sister recieved a double lung transplant 15 months ago, she was doing so good. But she died on the weekend, when her aorta started to rip apart, and the surgeons couldnt fix her. I was at her wake today, and I am tearing up as I write this from seeing my young 51 year old sister laid out on a trolley in the funeral home. Her story was my inspiration to keep fighting, to try and lose weight, and do pulmonary rehab. I was tols if I lose like 150 pounds, then my situation will improve greatly, and I might qualify for syrgery. But whats the point, after seeing what happened to her, and she was an ideal candidate, very fit and healthy. I wish there was some COPD support group I could join. As my disease is progression, and things are getting harder, my normal family are hard to talk to, as I need to talk to people going through this hellish experience. Can anyone tell me where to go to find support. I start pulmonary rehab next week at East Calgary Health, and I am hopeful my new best friend will be in that group, someone I can talk to, or even a fellow COPD patient, that can become my workout buddy. My sister had doens of friends in the COPD community. Her final service is on friday. Oh man this hurts so much. Youth is so fleeting, she was so vibrant, and alive
