All over the body at once Peter? Have you recently stopped any meds?

OR...spazzing here and there not at the same time? That one I had on the last round of Prednisone I was on and it was very freaky and has been recurring, but less. Now I'm back on the stuff again for a few days. It hasn't gone up to that other pitch though, thankfully.

You know I was reading something about this not too long ago in an online article on sleep disorders. When a person is asleep and dreaming the mind and body have a disconnect so that in your dreams when you are moving your arm or leg, your arm or leg doesn't actually move in real life disturbing your ability to sleep. Otherwise if you were running in your dream your legs would be peddling around in your bed and wake you up. Some drugs, and some illnesses affect this disconnect so that the body does react to what you are doing in your dream. There is a term for this disconnect but it was some months ago and I don't remember it but perhaps this is what is going on with you.
I know that sometimes if I fall in my dream, my body in real life back in my bed will jerk as I brace for the impact. And also that my sense of balance in real life will affect my ability to ride a bicycle in my dream. If I'm laying on my left side I won't be able to turn right and keep falling over to the left.

Just to add to my previous post, If you aren't experiencing this while fully asleep and dreaming it could be that as you are on the cusp of sleep and as thoughts are beginning to take on the aspect of a dream your body has not yet reached the point of disconnect and your dream movements are affecting your body. It could be a drug side effect or something else that is pushing the dream/body disconnect further on into a later stage of sleep. Just a thought anyways. Just make sure you don't get into a dream where you have to defend yourself or you might give your wife a lump. Lol

I think I misread. You mean your entire body goes into spasm, almost like a seizure? If you haven't stopped or started any new meds, I might bring this up to my Dr.

I think I will read three times before posting for future reference as well:) I took "all over the body" to mean here and there in various locations.

I'm wondering, if it could possibly be your body is relieved to be lying down and given a break and everything that has been working so hard to keep you upright all day is releasing at once?

Hi...no its not really a seizure type thing....im drifting off to sleep and wham, mainly arms n legs kinda jolt for a second and I fall back to sleep....doc says its just muscles relaxing or something.....its not regular just sometimes...just that such intensity ive never experienced before lol

What you described is not uncommon. I think they're called "sleep starts." I've had them off and on all my life. I hate being jolted (and startled) awake like that.

Have you increased your caffine intake? I know I was told that when the heart jolts like that as you are relaxing to sleep, it is reacting to the caffine, and it seems I remember something about your situation, where the muscles are unusualy taught or tense and since muscles relax, it could cause a jerk like that. Have you been doing any extra walking, lifting, ect? I wish I could remember it all, it has something to do with not warming up before the tread mill, or doing extra walking, because your muscles will contract and later relax when you are sleeping and cause a cramp.Or do I have that backwards?.....I hope the doctor will explain it better to you so you can explain it to us. That has to be scary !!

I think the doc feels the same as boldprint....lots of people have it n not to worry about it.....

Peter, the same has stated happening to me in the year or so. I t is usually when I am in twilight sleep in my recliner.

At times, I feel as though I am going to jerk mu arm back and hit the side lamp. Hubby isn't saying anything yet but this is just one of the many strange and unexpected things that happens.. LOL Sleep may be difficult for him too!!!
