The goal of any spacer is to give a area of disbursement as you inhale, not "firing" directly into your throat.
Breathe in slow so you don't suck the powder through the upper air tubes too fast. Breathe deep so the powder get way down in there. Hold it for a few seconds so the powder can settle in the air ways.
I use the spacer for my preventer medicine, (spray inhaler) I find it works well for me. Also, using a spacer I feel is a good option if any one is prone to thrush, that and rinsing out the mouth after inhaling.
I also use a different spacer with the reliever medicine when there is a need, ie when I get a cold, I just find it helps get the medicine deeper to where its needed.

Cipla Pharmaceuticals has produced Spiriva in an MDI form. But who knows how long it will be before we see it here in the US.
Spiriva Respimat should be used with caution in patients with known cardiac rhythm disorders
