ie: wall street journal - Consumer advocates say Medicare patients should ask whether they are considered inpatients or outpatients. Those on observation care who suspect they will need rehabilitation services should ask their doctors for help in getting the decision reversed before they are discharged.

Under Medicare rules that took effect on Oct. 1, doctors should admit as inpatients those they expect to stay in the hospital for two or more nights. But to qualify for rehabilitation services, the three-night minimum remains in effectand the patient must be an inpatient for all three nights . . .

Great info. Thanks for posting. What really got my goat was years later during an audit, Medicare can change your status to UNDER OBSERVATION. Later when they ask for money, just tell them, "My payment is currently under observation!" APPEAL the decision, then sue their socks off! The money used to fight/ defend this litigation are funds that if they did the right, the just thing instead of needlessly squandering, could be used toward Patient Care. Selfish, Greedy and RE-DICK-U-LUST!
