I remember on a few occaisions in threads here someone telling how a post you've written can be brought back if it disappears on you. I've just had it happen twice in a row and almost gave up on the thing as a bad job. Both times I tried to post it gave the error that the post was 0 in size, so it is reading as if I'm trying to post a blank empty reply and refusing it. Then when I returned back one page the post was gone. I couldn't remember what the suggestion was for trying to get it back and so reworked it and the dang thing did it to me again. Argghhh.

In general Ive found that this phenomenon appears closely associated with the length of time spent in the Edit box and how much editing one does while typing. The longer the page is open and the more changes you make, the more likely the message is to disappear upon 'Add'.
Using the edit box to compose a message is the only time Ive had this problem, thus I tend to compose in a 3rd party editor (Notepad, Memo, Word, etc.) and then paste. One can do some minor formatting then send. Barring that for short messages I always make sure to copy before sending.

Gnott is right if your message is long best to type it in Word or whatever and cut/ paste.
sometimes i get so frustrated i just give up posting.
today it happened & i did what grannie said & it came back as posted...go figure.

In general computing such a control is usually called an "Edit Box" or "Text Box".
i try to remember to "highlight & copy" my post if i have spent a long time on it, of course it's the ones i forget to do that with that i lose.
i have also found that if someone else is posting about the same time i am that i get that error thing & lose my post.
