Thursday was my birthday but it wasn't exactly happy. My stepfather lost his long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs) early thursday morning. He fought this awful disease off for about 6 years i think. He was a great guy and a wonderful husband to my mother. The world is a little worse off now. He is Jewish and needed to be buried within 3 days. Because of passover and the sabbath he was buried Friday and I didn't make it home for the funeral. The first flight wouldn't leave till after the funeral was over. My mom is coming to visit next month so i hope i will be able to give her more comfort then. HIs last weeks weeks were hard but his last days were peaceful. God Bless him.
I am so sorry for your loss, and it sounds like he was such a great man. He fought the good fight and now is at rest with no more pain or fear.
It is sad you could not be there, but I am sure your mom understood, and when she comes for a visit, you two can cry together, laugh together, and just mourn as you also celebrate the life of this wonderful man so loved by you and your mom.
May God fill your mom's and your heart and soul with comfort and peace and give courage and strength to get thru this.

I'm afraid to tell my mom about my illness now after she has been thru this.
So sorry to hear about your stepfather. It's quite a testament to a man that his stepson admired him as a father and husband. He must have been a good man.
I suggest you wait until you have a firm diagnosis to tell your mother about copd.

i agree with boldprint that when you see your mom this may just be a time to comfort each other with your loss until you've gotten all your lung tests done & are confirmed to have this disease.
i think ziggzagg is a prime example of dr's jumping the gun with diagnosing & scaring the hell out of people without proper information first.
i get a chuckle out of your profile--- "a little emphysema"---is that like being a little pregnant? ;)
my thoughts and prayers are with you and your mom as you go thru this time of loss.
