Well, I'm certainly stumped, gwapo. It doesn't make sense to me, but maybe some of the more enlightened folks here can help you understand it.

This is a stumper!! Do you think the Dr is not telling you everything? Or since this is a new Dr they just want to run all there test before anything is said? Just a thought

I'm not sure what there is to getting ready for the walk test (other than putting on shoes) - ask her for me. And I'd think that if you had a lung infection, you'd notice it or she'd have told you that too.

I hear your concern. I'd straight up ask her why she's doing this and how it can clinically help you. With our lungs being so fragile, we have to place trust in the drs. However....we still have a right to question and also have a say in our treatment. Best wishes. Please keep us informed.

thanks guys yeah its a puzzler...well ive decided not to do the daxas thingy cos the side effects esp the losing weight thingy...god cant afford to lose any or ill disappear...Also she gave me Doxofylline maybe thats to replace the singular...

Yeah you know how it is...i did ask but she had all the answers and as she is new to me i thought i better not question too much this visit...

Gwapo, question everything. No doctor should make you feel that you cannot talk to them. This is your life, so you have every right to question away or find another doctor.
Remember, they are, for the most part, trained to fix the problem. You know your own body. By all means, take the doctors advice. But if you feel like I do, I temper it with my own self-awareness.

Here's a link on Daxas. Looks like it's the same as Daliresp (roflumilast). Anti-inflammatory, supposed to decrease exacerbations. Maybe since she doesn't know you yet she's going the complete conservative route? You'll know better next week and so will she. My pulmonologist took me off Advair 1st visit and put me on Dulera. He gives me lots of samples of Dulera when I go, so maybe that's why? We don't have insurance. Sometimes there are reasons that just don't make sense to us. I am one who likes to know the reasons. Hopefully she explains it better next week.

That could be one of your Rx problems with this new Dr. I have a couple of friends that are Dr's and they tell me some great stories pertaining to Rx scripts.

I had my second exascerbation in Lousiana in February. The ER Dr where I went to first wanted the Dr where I was being EMS'd to in New Orleans to put me on an antibiotic STAT! I even asked for it while waiting to be admitted while sucking on Nebs and watching the nursing staff turn my arms into a pin cushion. Stayed for 5 days/4 nights, prescribed home O2 for the first time, still felt like crap. They EMS'd me back to my car, 45 miles away, cuz I was on 02. Still feelig like crap, I had to drive 14 hrs to St Augustine to see my son, while sucking on an 02 tank like a cup of coffee from Micky D's. Went right to a walk-in med clinic, asked the Dr to prescribe a Z-pack. After three days on the antibiotics, I finally started to feel normal and left the 02 tanks and concentrator in the corner. Question? Why didn't they give me the antibiotics in New Orleans. Go figure. I would've been out of that New Orleans hospital in 3 or 2 days, rather than the 5 I spent.

Your Dr. sounds confused?? She's confusing me. Daxas is the same as daliresp. I'd love to be able to take it, but like you I have emphysema. No bronchitis & it does make you lose weight. We do need a better anti inflammatory, other than prednisone, but most people with Emphysema can't take it. What's the candle thing?? Never heard of that one! Ask her questions next time & good luck:>)) Debbie

They ie mds wanted to give me inhalers also. i dont have bronchitis either i JUST TOSS THEM IN THE WASTE BASKET.

Hi kaput. The candle thing, I think, is part of the spirometry test. You blow into the spirometer and the screen on the computer has candles. However hard you blow, that's how many candles blow out. At least that was what they used on me for my test. It's quite the visual. Blow harder, more candles go out. Then they decipher your FEV1 from that.

unfortunitely im in a third world country n it took me 3 months to even get a pulo to see me. Most of the time i used a doctor who is also Head Director of a major hospital close by to where i live....Damn if this was back home id have sued her for everything...but alas its only in dreams..lol

What is everyone taking that is primary emphysema? I am on Spriva and arcapta neohaler.

Well i was on advair/seretide250 twice a day, morning n night, spiriva inhaler once a day, ventolin rescue inhaler or ventolin nebulizer when needed, singular maintenence, mucinex for sputum if needed, supplimentary oxygen if needed

plus prednisone 20mg, azithromycin, as standby emergency meds.
