Be prepared to answer: Does he have a fever, and if so, what is it? Is the cough productive or dry? If it's productive, what color is the sputum? Clear, yellow, green?

There are a number of airborne household hazards that are exacerbated (pun intended grin) when a house is closed up. Many small hazards that is unnoticed by healthy people or by COPD patients when their disease was less advanced can suddenly become a problem. These items can included such things as minor CO production from gas heaters or fireplaces; household sprays; dusty air vents; fragrant candles, sprays, air fresheners, etc.; pet allergies; or just plain dryer air with dust.
to try honey.
It did help and I use it in my coffee once a day every day. It also
helped my husband with a totally different type of cough from sinus.
Can't hurt to give it a try. It's harmless and tastes good too.
i also have antibiotics on hand in case i start going into an exacerbation when dr is not in as it is that important to get on top of it fast.
today is a holiday, so i'm not sure if dr's are open..has your dr given your husband meds to have on hand?
if so i would get them started.
(my opinion only)
to help the cough does he have guafenisin (sp?) on hand to help loosen it?
I also have prednisone and antibiotics when coughing will not stop and I realize I'm headed for another exacerbation....
But I mention it as a possible comfort that may help ease
discomfort.
good that it hasn't gone bacterial, did the dr give him an anti-inflammatory to help ease any inflammation?
the herbal tea & honey sounds like a good plan..
someone mentioned ginger tea helps open bronchial passages.
Main thing thought is like everyone says, he should see a doc.
