Can't Doctors Hear?

I went to the E.R. this week with breathing problems. Some type of fluid was accumulating at the top of my lungs and I couldn't get it out. If I coughed hard, a big wad of it would come up and block my air. That scared me and I started doing throat clearing and swallowing what little came up. It got so bad I called 911. The med-tech in the ambulance couldn't hear the fluid, but said I was in afib. The attendant in the e.r. listened to my lungs and heard nothing, although I could feel the fluid. I kept telling them about it, but nobody listened! I told them it seemed the fluid was coming from behind my nose, but they didn't check. I was diagnosed with exerbation of copd and afib. They prescribed a nebulizer treatment, an atibiotic, and Spiriva. They're helping, but the problem is still there. Why can't doctors listen and at least check what the patient suspects?

I don't know, but often they don't- I guess they go with what they know more than what we say. Hope you are better soon...

Good yoour getting some relief. There is a trial period before you'll know for sure if the medications are addressing the problem. In the meantime though, sounds like you need to have some thorough testing. That would be my next step.

After kissing a few toads I finally found a doctor who is my Prince. He is an internal medicine/ pediatric double specialist.

He always listens and he always gives me what I want.

I think his double speciality gives him a lot of extra knowledge and experience.

I found my current doctor by asking a doctor friend who she would chose for me. Good luck

I went to the ER last week and the one doctor did not even listen to my wife when she was telling her about the drugs I'm on. I also have EC. Talked to my pcp two days later and he knew right away what I needed. The problem was from being on some of the drugs to long and the need changed. Why do they call them ER's You have to be shot or have a limb cut off for them to do anything is seems.
