I asked one of my docs the other day if all the fires recently could be the cause of a lot of exacerbations for COPD folks lately. After all, we've had continuous fires for several months now between Colorado, Idaho, and now California, and given that much of the mid section of the country is in drought, there has been no rain to wash the ash/carbon particles out of the air, so even though it's 1500 miles away from me, it could be affecting my respiratory status. He is not a pulmonologist so he wouldn't firmly commit, but he thought it was a reasonable possibility.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers....Yes, I believe those fires can cause respriatory problems even if you are miles away. The soot, ash, dust, ect tavels on the air and most is so fine you can breathe it in with out noticing,,,well, not you Deegran!! That is so scary for you I know. We have had alerts here in Texas at times for dust and smoke from something in another state, not your fires , but fires closer to Texas. Keep well my friend

i don't know about elsewhere, but here in utah they have on the news the days that the smog (they call it "inversion"---sounds nicer doesnt it) is so bad they have "no burn" days of wood & coal stoves.
and they tell anyone with asthma or any respiratory problems (COPD) to not go outside & they keep the kids inside at school.
so i assume it must do something.

Thanks everybody for your kind thoughts. Kinda funny because I was telling Bill aka FLHam49 that sometimes I would like to just take 2 days off completely. Well haha, that's what I'm doing. Lucky lucky me. Anyways, I agree that the smoke and stuff can travel. And Jarca those inversion layers in Utah can get pretty rough I hear. I guess it's been really nasty up by Salt Lake City. My niece was joking that her dogs farts smelled better than the regular air. Gross I know, but still kinda funny. Everyone take care. Love ya.

We don't have these types of fires here in Western PA so I cannot even begin to feel what you must feel like with the thick smoke and particles in the air. There's also the worry involved - I certainly hope that there is no immediate threat to your home. I've only seen these on the news and they're really scary when you see them getting close to peoples homes. I just can't imagine having all that smoke, that is terrible. Smoke of any kind is bad for folks with problems respiratory. I would think folks that don't have a breathing problem would also be effected, it just can't be good for anyone's lungs.

I am sure you are staying indoors, hopefully it will be over soon.

Deegran, If I had a big helicopter , and knew how to fly it, and could fly in smoke, I would fly in and rescue you and Bill. But, since I can not do any of those things, I will keep praying those fires get put out real soon. I just heard of another one in I think, San Jacinto park in california. (I could have that wrong.) There is no telling all the crap that is in our air just on a normal day, that a normal breathing person breathes in!! Yeah, "Smoking" caused it, smoking cars, smoking factories, smoking trucks, planes, trains, rockets, ect...
