So there I was, sitting in my lounge chair. A friend was over and we were chatting. I twisted my body around in the chair to see him better and slam, crack, bam, I was seeing stars and swearing like a sailor.
Broke a few ribs. In January I broke 2 on the opposite side as well as fractured 2 vertabrea.
Since I Take predinosone to help me breath better, it has made my bones very brittle.
Supposed to go to NYC to the transplant hospital for 3 days of testing, but since I can hardly walk or take a deep breath, they may be called off. I hope they will just rescheduel those tests and do the rest which doesn't require me to do anything taxing.

They will probably wait till you are healed first then schedule a bone density test...Are you taking any cal/D meds? Let us know.....thinking of you. Jo

Oh My Gosh..................I am soooooooooooooo sorry to hear this:(:(

I am also taking low dose of prednisone daily..................OUCH.....kinda scare me now..............

I am so sorry that you have had to go through that and pray things will get better and that treatments will take all of this into consideration.

I react badly to steroids and am dreading being asked to go back on Advair. I have the disc but now I am scared to take it.

So very sorry to hear about your broken bones !!! Yes, the transplant team will reschedule you, I am sure. I know I can call mine and have no problem re scheduling. Bad thing is, I have osteoporosis, and after the lung transplant everything wrong with you will get worse, including that. My doctor has been pushing me to up my milk intake, take my calcium, vitamin d, and do those exercises, like weight bearing, or walking, all to not only strengthen my muscles, but also help my bones as much as possible before transplant. Not going to be a good thing to have that done then fall and break something!! So I am hopeing you are doing al that also, well not right now, but talk it over with your doctor when you get better and ask him what you need to do to get your bones as strong as possible. Do you need the prednisone all the time? Just turning in your chair and breaking ribs sounds very bad. Have your doctor go over the concerns with you, because after transplant, you can only do so much.
I hope you mend soon and all is well..

OK guys...............since I have been taking 10mg of prednisone a day...........you guys have now motivated me to increase my calcium intake ( I do NOT drink milk)..............and my Vit D..................

Right now I am on 15mg prednisone every other day. When I have had exaserbations in the past they would give me a stepdown dosage of 40 for 3 days on down to nothing. That's been on and off for 2 years now. I take Vite D, Calcium and Potassium.
I will be rescheduling the tests for April I hope.
It is very painful, but thankfully, my doctors know what to perscribe. Right now I am on ms contin 2x per day and oxy for breakthrough pain.
