Hi, Barbara. You didn't give your age, but I am 88 and have been coping with emphysema , neuropathy and very hi BP for about twelve years now. You just have to learn to live with it. In my case, it's worse because I can't walk, but a lot of emphysema patients can do physical therapy which helps, and oxygen, inhalers, and other breathing aids are available. Just look into all your options, learn all you can about the disease, accept that you have a problem but be confident that you can handle it. Stay with us or some other support group-- best of luck.

i am 37 and was just diagnosed hang in there it gets easier i promise

Thank you both! I only have one more thing to do which is a sleep study.
My doctor put me on an inhaler called Stiolto Respimate. What are use it I cough first and some comes out of my mouth . I'm not sure if that's OK so I'm going to ask my doctor when I go back on the 21st. Have a good evening!

It'll be ok. If you're smoking quit,
Sooner the better. Don't be scared. You can deal with this 20 or 40 years, You have every chance.
Stop the progression while you can.

Thanks Bob, I don't smoke and I never have . So I assume it had to come from places I worked. You said 20 to 40 years ! Does that mean if you take care of yourself and do what you're supposed to do you could live with it that long ? Oh really for a long time ?

Hi my name is Brigitte and I was diagnosed with the condition in November. I am having problems accepting that I have this condition even though I have smoked I am 58 years old. I was immediately put on oxygen therapy on any exercise even walking from my car round a supermarket. I am slowly learning to live with the condition although I find it hard living with the symptoms but I'm trying hard to give up the cigarettes it sounds stupid but its hard. I suffer with awful tiredness but have learnt that my health is important and take rest whenever needed which then gives me the boost to get on with things nothing is that bad there is ways to cope I'm now finding hobbies to keep me busy and looking forward to a long life. Yes, you can,"live with it for a really long time. " Said before, I'm 88 and have been, "Living with it ",or over a dozen years .I have a lot of other serious problems as well,, but am usually on my feet, that is, with a walker, a cane or a motor chair And a portable oxygen machine..But I'm not an invalid. I go to the farmer's market, to art exhibits, shopping, and we went for three days to Colonial Beach for the fourth and I rode my schooter up a d down the.boardwalk. My daughter is employed, so I am alone a lot, so have to fix my own meals. I can't stand up long enough to cook but I can put together a TV dinner. You learn how to cope with it as you go along.There are bad days, but you get sort of proud of getting thru them and that makes for good days. Just do what you can, give it your best shot, hang in.best.
