Stats are just that ... numbers. Think positive thoughts! For example: 2 yrs ago I was down to 20%. At the time, my wife and I lived about 2 miles downwind from a huge DuPont Chemical plant. About the same time we moved from that area (pre-planned, nothing directly to do with my COPD.) One of the benefits of the move was much cleaner air/environment. Alsso, new docs and medical facilities. Just 6 weeks ago I scored 41% !

Remember, the percentiles are based on your age as compared to someone the same age who has never smoked. So, if you smoke (I'll state this bluntly) QUIT!

I know you all know very little about me. I am deeply sorry for your results...However...I have all my life seen the worst of humanity...I have been threw two suicides one in my home. Have a husband that's out finding new love...I am according to doctors at the end stage of emphysema ....In as little as 4 months Im going to litterly have to have my throat cut to be able to eat food. I started the day sitting in the middle of a parking lot crying my eyes out. But I got up...Put one foot in front of the other...went to a water park in 106 with 60% humidity and a code orange pollution day . I made it..6 hours walking climbing stairs in the heat. If I would have just stayed in that parking lot crying...I would never have been so happy to know ...hey If I fight even if I do it to deny illness. I still did it. I am so glad I did. I sure know how hard life can be. But don't give up...keep going no matter how many times you fall ....get back up and keep going.

I am sorry your PFT results are lower than you wish. It can feel scary.
I am on oxygen 24/7, and my FEV1 ranges 25-28%. It varies each time I test. Going in this Thursday, for another PFT breathing test.
My point: I am still here. I am still alive. Had this disease since 1999.
You may not be "screwed". Keep fighting. Never, ever give up.

Lol me to silfoxx2002....... Think much longer the would have called the partTy wagon. Thank you all so so much for your kindness. Hope my humor never offends. Most of my will and fight just comes from pure anger...nothing brave just a strong desire to not have come so far and go out like this with out one heck of a fight.

Two years ago I had a PFT and my FEV1 was only 18%. Since then I have been eating healthy food, and I changed my meds. 2 weeks ago I had another PFT and my FEV1 was up to 43%. That's a 240% improvement.

So just because you have a 35% FEV don't lose hope. Think of it. 2 years ago my FEV1 was only half of what yours is, but now mines 7% higher.

You can improve but you gotta work at it. You have to think about it. This isn't the way I wanted my retirement to go.. but this is the hand I was dealt.

When I had to retire a few years ago my Fev1 was 34% Had to retire because of my back not my lungs. Things have not gotten so worse since I found a gal at the rehab clinic at the VA to help with my back but even though I have had trouble with a couple of lung infections things are not so bad. Deal with it when I can and most of all LIVE!

Make the best of what we can. That is all we can do...

Hey everyone! New day. Yay. I was pretty scared yesterday when I saw those numbers. Just didn't think it would be that low. But, gosh, you are all so helpful. Life is good and I'm not done yet. The doctor took me off Advair and gave me Dulera. Anyone else use Dulera? Thanks again.

Hey DeeDee. Just had a recent visit with my lung doc. My FEV1 is at 34%. Doc said it's possible I could remain at 34% for 10 years!

I was diagnosed 20 years ago (at 38yrs) with mild COPD. The only med I take is Spiriva and I'm not on oxygen yet. I do all of my grocery shopping, gardening etc.

So please don't dispair you probably have a good many years ahead of you!
