I just went back and retread under New Inhaler?
This subject of medications gets really complicated!

from what i looked up the breo is a "long acting" inhaler which i assume you will take instead of the spiriva.

the Anorak---when i googled that it took me to coats/parkas---so does that have a different name?

oh, i found an Anoro---is that it?---if the breo is 1 time a day is the anoro or anorak a rescue type that is done more often?

It will be a while. So far I've not been able to tell if the Spiriva or my inhaler X something help. The thing is I feel just fine one day or even part of a day and then I'll be wiped out and my lungs will hurt another time. Like everyone else I'll just do what I can I guess. I'd like to see more trial results from these drugs. What do they call this? A pig in a poke. Whatever that means : )

j.h. have you ever been on the clinical trials that the government sponsors? You might find the answer to some of your questions about results.

This how I follow whatever is being tested , when and where. It is not just COPD but all Diseases they are testing. You can limit your search to whatever medical problem that you want.

I did a device trial from this list back in 09 and you are able to keep up on all the tests that COPD requires and your insurance is not charged.

j.h., I'll be interested to know how the Breo works out for you. I've got a few samples of that from my GP, but the Dulera I get from my Pulmo doc works so well that I hesitate to try anything new.

Thanks, Anna. That's an interesting site. I don't think it gives results of drug trials tho. The only ones I've been able to find for that end up saying, maybe they help a bit, as far as I can tell. Lotsa people making lotsa $ from them tho!

JH - I used Spiriva (Tiova 9mg Inhaler) and XOPENX and for some they are life changers - both worked for me since the XOPENX has little influence on your heart rythm like steroid based rescue inhalers /best 'h'/

Well, I was kinda tickled that my GP gave me 2boxes of Breo and 1 of Anoro to try and you guys sounded interested. Well today I decided to research them on Google. Discover that the vilanterol that they both contain is to be used with caution if taking beta blockers " as they not only block the pulmonary effect of beta 2-antagonists such as vilanterol, but may produce broncheospasm inpatients with COPD."
I have been on propranolol, a beta blocker, for 50 years!!
I could find no such caution for Spiriiva so guess I'll keep taking it every other day (since I have the beginning of glaucoma)

After a lot of study I'm ending up taking the same meds as you,
Hanko. Just glad to settle on something. Today I've taken nothing and feel fine. Yesterday was the opposite. Go figure.

All I know is that Spiriva seems to help me and everything I have read about taking steroids before severe stage COPD is that they can only add side effects that no one wants to have. I certainly don't agree with my PCP who says that only steroids stop COPD in its tracks. I really need a new Dr and, if I move to Wilmington, I will have one.

Tonight I had dinner with old friends who are now in their 80's and upset about all of their friends who have died recently. They are both in very good health and I could only shake my head.

I asked my PA about Striverdi Respimat (olodaterol) and she'd never heard of it. So I asked about Anoro and she gave me a sample. She told me to stop taking Perforomist while I was taking Anoro but to continue taking other nebulizer meds: Ipravent, Pulmicort and if needed, Albuterol.

Now I read the instructions with the Anoro and it says to NOT take Ipravent while taking Anoro! The PA didn't warn me about that. Are any of you taking Anoro and if so, what other meds do you take? Is Anoro working for you? I haven't noticed any difference.

I started taking anoro about 2 weeks ago.....it doesnt seem to be doing much.....The only advantage of taking anoro is that it is only taken once per day...it is a long term medicine....but if it doesnt work what good is it....I had less side effects with it though.....so I really had hope that this med.was going to help....but it doesnt.....so Im back to being a guinea pig and trying something else...argh this rotten disease
