Peter...I sure can't answer that.....as I am in Texas and also without insurance.

And.........sad to sad, I would be willing to bet that most folks without insurance can not answer it either........and folks with insurance don't know, or have any idea how much a person without insurance might have to pay.

Seems rates (prices) go up if you have no insurance:(:(

Best thing your friend could do is prolly call around her area and ask. She might also try the hospital social worker and see if they could help............or even the doctor she is seeing ..................

Maybe she would be eligible for some kind of low income/no insurance program??? Just depends on her own circumstances.

PS...........if she is waiting on SSDI and they send her to a Pulmo guy......she might check with him to see if he knows of anyone/place that will take her w/o insurance.

Problem is that they aren't going to publish their rates - because they are different for whichever insurance you happen to have. They most likely won't even take someone on without a doctors direction due to liability issues. Possibly a local gym? Or if that is not a option she may look at doing a bit of exercises on her own. There are web pages and utube videos for exercise instruction and healthy eating, etc...

The way I understand it, a doctor has to recommend pulmonary rehab, and then I guess the payment is sorted out thru the insurance co. You said she is waiting for ssi, so does that mean she is eligible for ,medicaid? Well, you said disability, ...anyway, medicaid is insurance for folks like her, and what ever doctor she sees should get her in an exercise program. Or if not, then he can give her instructions to exercise at home, if she can. I hope she finds a way, it is really good for you.

thanks guys...I just don't know how the system works there re insurance etc...she is not good on the computer so her answers n questions are hard to follow.....Yes its Medicaid...just remembered that...Her doctor gives her free sample meds n sometimes free consultation...she did go to a pulmo but what happened there is very vague as she did not even know if she did a spirometry test or not...She has been on lots of prednisone n her face is like a balloon...She tried to come off it but was quickly put back on 10mg till she has her gallbladder operation soon....so far her family are supporting her n she lives rent free at my friends house.

ok..maybe I was rushing her abit in jumping to rehab as looking back at our convo I think she is really not sure whats going on...

Of course, depending on the state...Medicaid is income qualified. So, if she is waiting for Medicaid, in NY State...a pending medicaid app, will pay bills you incur going back 90 days. So, sometimes the Dr's office will take your pending Medicaid application number, and just bill it that way. They may bill self pay at first, with a note that there is a pending Medicaid application.

A lot of the Dr's offices are used to this, as it normally takes 2-3 months for Medicaid apps to be approved. I used to work as a case manager for Medicaid, and some Government sponsered programs called Family Health Plus, and Child Health plus, and i know for Medicaid in NY state, there is a 90 day lookback, that Medicaid will pay for unpaid medical bills, as long as she "KEEPS HER BILLS"!!

Hope this helps, but yes..Social Services will help her out, she can call there, or make an appointment to go in. They are used to dealing with clients that are not well versed in the programs available.
