Congenital Heart Disease Support Group
Congenital heart disease is heart disease in the newborn, and includes congenital heart defects, congenital arrythmias, cardiomyopathies, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). CHD can describe a wide variety of different abnormalities affecting the heart. CHD occurs when the heart or blood vessels near the heart does not develop properly before birth.

Welcome. The group isn't very active but hopefully someone will come along soon who can assist you better than I am able. I was born with a bi-cupsid aortic and have several other conditions, but cardiomyopathy is not one of them. Please know though if you need to talk to someone I am here and I do understand how difficult and scary this can all be at times. Stay strong and please take good care of yourself. I hope you begin to feel better soon.
Cardiomyopathy basically means that your heart muscle has been damaged...This can be d/t lack of oxygen, infections, immune response, out of whack blood chemistries. Lots of things can cause cardiomyopathy. First and foremost you try to determine the cause and treat it.
Second step is to get the other parts of your body functioning better. Most people think " Well, my heart isn't doing so good but the rest of me is fine" It doesn't work like that...everything is interconnected. Your blood pressure is a little high and that puts stress on all of the parts of your body. Your whole body needs circulation, right? Also, how well are your blood sugars controlled. You are on 2 diabetic meds and high blood sugars gum up the works.
Have you done a cardiac rehab program? They are really good at counseling about lifestyle issues like diet, exercise, etc, plus helps you set up an exercise program and advance your exercise in a controlled and safe manner.
I hope this was helpful, I will be happy to answer any questions that I can. Love and blessings, Diane
