For individuals who lie because they cannot reveal their true selves to other people in their lives at the risk of being disliked. Are you a victim of this type of abuse??

Lying has official ruined my life.

I am new to this group...well any groups. 
I have known for a long time that I have a problem with lying. I suffer from anxiety and use lying as a coping mechanism and almost like a shield for my life. I have told everything from small lies to HUGE lies. Recently I have started therapy for my anxiety and my lying because it completely destroyed my life. I lost my wife. My son found out I was lying. My work found out I was lying. I literally lost everything because of lying. After everything I decided it was time to come clean and I started telling everyone the truth. Revealing things I have lied to them about. I spilled it all....and I ruined more. I feel defeated and find myself struggling to not go back to lying. 
Has anyone ever delt with anything like  this??

I would never pretend to have answers fir you, because I’m in a very similar position. My only thoughts are that we need to “believe “ that we are good enough, and if value, so that telling the truth doesn’t diminish our feelings about ourselves. I’m a people pleaser, and I just want everyone to be happy. So I’ll say whatever is necessary to that end. The irony, is that it hurts everyone that I’m trying to make happy.

I hate confrontation, but am going to give myself permission to disappoint people, but be honest. I have to get to a place where my life and relationships are healthier. All the dysfunction is of my creating, and the only person that can change this is me.

I wish you nothing but good things. Telling the truth isn’t going to be easy for us, but life won’t trend up until we do.
