It is a very real thing and I wish they would recognize it. I was subjected to massive abuse at work, including being assaulted and mentally abused to name a couple things. I have no doubt I have C-PTSD but since it is not recognized no one will say I have it. Further adding to the trauma, is the fact that the HR dept refused to believe me and fingered me as the problem in the department. I eventually quit after a massive anxiety attack put me in the hospital and you guessed it the abusers still have their jobs while I struggle to find a lost identify and put my life back together. Oh, and the health insurance plan refused to pay me because I was not sick. It is frustrating enough to have this but then to be told you are not sick and the issues at work did not really happen. Holy cow. I guess I really did not spend 12 days in the hosptial being held against my will either. lol.

I agree that it's a very real thing. It boggles my mind as to why it's not making it in the new DSMV.
I've had some similar experiences with health insurance. I also feel like I've been bullied by health care professionals (mainly psychiatrists) into thinking I was the problem. As a child I was locked up in a psych ward against my will and it only made me repress the childhood sexual abuse further. In my opinion, the problem is abuse. Not the victims of abuse. The victims display symptoms.
I had a wise man tell me about secondary wounding. Have you heard the term before? It helped me to label what was going on for me.
The V.A. does recognise Complex PTSD, although they have yet to develop treatment specific programs for Complex PTSD. The staff in the Mental Health wing do treat Vet's individually for Complex PTSD and with great compassion, understanding and insight. Much of that depends on how willing and dedicated the patient is to healing, as well. Sometimes people are just not ready to heal and you can only hope that it will not be too late when they are. Personally, I have been through their program and still am in treatment for Complex PTSD, but now that I am well into recovery, I can see how hard I was fighting my own healing. There was that comfort that seclusion, lack of trust and anger afforded me and I had grown so dependant on, as a way to survive the trauma's.
Let me recognise it........ it's for real and anyone who doubts PTSD much less CPTSD is only worried about his or her purses. Taking that to the next step......how would we expect guilty people to address PTSD? Most fill the mold that equates prosperity seems sensible but it sux in real life. So easy to chase the carrot, thinking we will be rewarded......What do you really want? Whether you achive your dreams or not....... would your last dying breathe support caving in?
Maybe there should be some alternative to the Diagnostic And Statistical Manual (DSM). Is anyone aware of a competing set of guidelines that is perhaps more current and flexible? If there is, perhaps it's time we picked up the DSM and tossed it into the garbage.
