Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group
Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.
Last week I saw my Immunologist and had my Igg checked. It was 1100.
Since May I have had three strong, recurring infections... Antibiotics 7 days, a week or so later back to the doctor for 10 days of antibiotics. A month later back again and yada yada yada... the usual drill.
Currently I'm taking 16 grams per week of Hizentra. My immuno wants to raise it to 18 grams per week. I wanted to go to 20 grams but he wants to take it slow and check my levels in about three to four months.
My question is this: will 2 grams a week make much difference? Has anyone here experienced a small change like this?

Yes, 2 grms can make an impact as it is 8 grms added to your monthly dose. Your doctor is correct in gradually increasing your dosage.
My last trough test my IgG levels were 1029. I had another test today and ready to ask for any increase if my levels are not up to 1200.
Hang in there and give the 2 grm increase a chance to work.

I'm also getting a dose increase this week. I'm going from 12 grams of Gammagard to 13 grams, mostly for pain management. (Joint pain that no one has determined the cause of.) My trough level was 987. I wish he would have went up more, but he thinks it will help.
I know small increases help because I received 12.5 grams for several months during a 1 gram vial shortage and it really helped my joint pain. When the 1 gram vials became available and I went back down, I got a sinus infection that required two rounds of antibiotics and am now on Avelox for bronchitis, after I tried Biaxin to no avail. If I'm not better Monday, I'm being admitted. I'm amazed that the small decrease has made me that much worse.
I guess I would say to give it a try and see if it helps. I hope it does and you feel better soon!
