Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

I'm fairly new here. I was diagnosed with CVID in 2009 and started treatment in 2010. I was diagnosed after a major sinus infection that took months to get over and included double ear infection and blown out ear drums. My dr sent me to an ENT and he sent me to an allergist- who discovered the deficiency.
My levels were super low. IgG was about 68 and each test found it lower, as low as 52. My IgA was

CVID is is a different disease, and effects everyone differently. Some people will not have any symptoms while others have tons of infections.
What type of treatment are you getting? It is ok to be confused many of us were confused when we were first diagnosed, and joined this site..Having people answering questions have helped me..
I'm in a similar situation as you. From what I'm reading about CVID, some forms are more infectious, while others are more inflammatory or autoimmune in nature. I relate it to the different types of arthritis where some are degenerative and others are inflammatory. I'm not particularly sure that's an accurate translation though. I plan to ask my Dr the next time I see him.

I get IVIG infusions monthly. I've been getting them for 4 years now. What puzzles me is that my numbers are super low. I used to feel lousy from January to June. I don't have that now. I feel like an enigma.
I am so sorry you are feeling so lousy. Maybe it is time to talk to your doctor again.
Go in and ask him some questions..Has he ever upped you dose?
Ash him why you feel awful, why your numbers are so low, what he is going to do about it...
I was was feeling run down and couldn't function for about a week before my infusions and my doctor increased my dose and increased frequency. I now go every 3 weeks instead of every 4 weeks.. What a difference. My numbers are stable..No major infection..No hospital..Which I was in the hospital all the time, 1-3 weeks every month.. So this is amazing...
