Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

I am trying to get my husband on disability and he was denied..  Now we went to a lawyer and they don't want to take the case because they are looking for easy cases and this is a tough one they said.  If you have disability for CVID please give me any tips you can...

I'm so sorry your husband was denied. He will need to appeal at this point. Here is a link to the guidelines for SSDI and Immune Deficiencies:

It's good for his Dr's to have these guidelines when filling out any paper work.

Also, you can contact the Immune Deficiency Foundation and they can refer you to attorneys who work specifically with PI patients for free...I can't remember the name of the organization off the top of my head, but the IDF will know, just go to primaryimmune.org and contact them by email or phone and they will give you the name and phone number of the legal group that assists CVID patients for free.

Excellent...They should be able to help. I hope everything works out. There's also a very active Face Book group called CVID...it's a closed group so you have to request to be a member, but it's very active and a great resource for info.

I was denied twice and finally got a lawyer and appealed. I was in front of the judge no more than 5 minutes and he told me I was lucky to be alive given all the times I was in ICU and I was approved immediately. There is hope definitely keep appealing. there is only half a page of symptoms in the disability handbook that qualify you with CVID for disability at least in Massachusetts and you only need to meet 3 of them. Every other disease out there has pages of symptoms
