Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

Hi Guys,
My niece was suppose to come down for a visit & the whole family was suppose to come over to my house for an Argentine BBQ. I have CVID, Lupus & R.A. The meal is now going to be somewhere else. The rest of the family is encouraging me to go. My gut tells me that it's too risky. Does any one know what the risk is to someone with CVID?

My son had mono years ago & I didn't get it, just don't drink out of anyones cup, or kiss anyone & you should be fine... Don't miss out on life..BBQ is outside so even better...

I've had mono and my family didn't get it. Like Cheryl said, just don't kiss, eat or drink after anyone. I got it from eating after another kid in the youth group at church before I knew I had CVID. It's not easily spread. The symptoms I had (just in case) were sore throat, sleepiness and fever. I hope you have fun at the BBQ if you decide to go. :)

Hi There,

I suppose if you wanted to take extra precautions you could wear a mask while in close contact greeting everyone and saying goodbye, and then follow the good advice of everyone else while eating...outdoors is great...lots of air circulation!
