Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

Hi I was wondering what you all know about the IgA content of Hizentra. I got a phone call from the company today. My order is for hizentra SQ. I thought I was going to need IV but apparently my doctor changed her mind. From what I've read seems SQ had less risk of systemic reactions.... But I'm wondering about the IgA content as my IgA is low and I'm told I need a low IgA product.

Anyone on this brand who is willing to share their experience with it would be greatly appreciated.

All Ivig products including subq, will indicate the content on the script and on the bottles themselves. You should be best served by having your doctor explain this to you thoroughly and clearly. Hizentra is a great product that I have used for about eight years. As with any subq the chances are you will be infusing once a week and your numbers should soar. Best wishes.

Sorry, I did not mean to confuse you further. Your IgA numbers should also be available to you and your doctor. Personally, I have never had a problem with an IgA reaction with Hizentra. Before switching to subq I had a very serious reaction to an IVIG product that turned out to be very high in IgA. It nearly killed me, but there was no one to blame really. They have no way of knowing your reaction until you have one.

The IgA content of hyqvia is 37 μg/mL. . May I ask why you want to know? Just because your IgA is low doesn't mean you'll need a low IgA product. The issue is about 5% of patients with low or absent IgA have anti IgA antibodies.
I've been in IG therapy for 4 years and have never heard of a low IgA Hyquiva, The only product that is low in IgA is Gammagard SQ. There is no Hyquiva SQ. Wiki and Google, The are not always accurate and can be very dangerous for new patients.

I just happen to come across these comments about IgA; I have IgA deficiency (among several other physical problems) and was told there was not anything for it but I notice some of you are having treatments. Just left me a bit confused but the way I am so allergic to meds it's just as well.

My son received IviG using low igA gammagard for seven years. We recently switched to hizentra sub-q and we were also concerned about the amount of IgA since it isn't a 'low IgA' product. Our immunologist researched it and he found no incidents of an IgA reaction. We are almost two months in and no problems so far.

My IgA is low and I use Hizentra with no problems. If you've tested positive to IgA inatibodies then you need to low IgA solution but otherwise it's fine.

CountryGal22, the Hizentra does not increase the IgA level but is given to increase a low IgG level it's just that many with low IgG also have low IgA.
