Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.

Hi Everyone!

I just started a new job, with new insurance and found out that I will have a $500 a month co-pay for my Hyzentra!! There is NO way I can afford that! I have an appointment with my immunologist on December 9, and I'll ask him, but I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem. So does anyone have any advice or suggestions on ways to help with the cost of insurance co-pay?

Hi Tammy,

Welcome to the board. Like many of us, I know how stressful insurance and out-of-pocket expenses can be due to the expense of our treatments.

I could be wrong, but I believe with the ACA, which affects all types of health coverage, there is an out-of-pocket maximum. After you meet your out-of-pocket maximum, you should only have doctor office visit co-pays.

I am on Hizentra, as well and they have an awesome co-pay assist program that will pay the specialty pharmacy up to $4000.00 for Hizentra treatments annually. Their approval process is easy,

I agree, there is a deductible with PPO's and then there is an out of pocket maximum. I would contact your insurance adn ask them when you copay is and out of pocket maximum. Also, I could be wrong but I thought even subq was covered under major medical now instead of pharmacy?

Thanks Ladies! Unfortunately my Hizentra is covered under my pharmacy benefits. I spoke with the representative at Aetna and she said told me about Hizentra co-pay assist program and I'm going to apply for that. I still am not 100% sure what my co-pay will be. Everyone at Aetna keeps telling me they can't tell me my copay until my order processes. UGH!!! Anyway, just got approval today, and they are supposed to call me with my copay.

Have you googled Aetna's IGG policy? I found UHC's very easily online and found out what to expect for my medication co-pays
