Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group
Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.
I do subq and also have nausea. My doctor said it isn't very common, but it does happen.
I did not premedicate my first infusion and I was nauseous for a couple of days after, so my doctor gave me 4 mg of Zofran to premedicate with. This helped, but I was still nauseous so he increased it to 8 mg. I now premedicate with 8 mg of Zofran an hour before I start my infusion and I seldom have nausea or if I do, it is mild.
If I still get nauseated, I use Preggie Pops and they help tremendously. I'll admit, it's kind of embarrassing to have to go buy them and get congratulated every time, but it's worth it. They sell them at Babies R Us and at natural foods stores. Ginger ale made with real ginger also helps and salty snacks like saltines and pretzels help.
I have been infusing for a year on October 14th and I have found that the side effects lessen over time. Your doctor can also try changing your flow rate tubing so your infusion will be slower and that should lessen the nausea and side effects. There are several different things your doctor can try before deciding to stop your infusions.
Sending love and hugs to you. I know it's miserable.

After talking to my doctor yesterday we decided to change to Hizentra.
I hope I'll have better luck.
But I know gammagard has a long half life.
