Common Variable Immunodeficiency Support Group
Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a group of 20-30 primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) which have a common set of symptoms but with different underlying causes. CVID's underlying causes are different, but the result of these are that the body doesn't produce sufficient antibodies in response to exposure to pathogens.
I just wanted to introduce myself. I am 38 and was just diagnosed with CVID a few weeks ago and they gave me a the pneumonia vaccine to see how my body responds. I am wait on the results right now.
I have two boys in 1st and 3rd grade. They are both gifted in math with dyslexia and dysgraphia and between them have other issues that require different types of therapy. My father-in-law lives with us and I take care of him. He is diabetic and had a stroke a little over a year ago so he is in a wheel chair and paralyzed on one side.
I am very active in my kids school (got the volunteer of the year award yesterday) and sub. My husband and I run the chess club before school, I am PTA secretary and my dh and I run 2 cub scout dens and I count money for the church.
My dh has a good job and works a lot. We estimate he works about 55-65 hrs a week.
Now, I have to learn to slow down and take care of me. I have had two ruptured ear drums in the past three years, multiple cases of bronchitis, sinusitis, ear infections and more. I always feel tired but I just thought that was part of being a parent and doing what I do. I have often told people that if I had been born before the age of antibiotics I would have been dead before 2 and now I know why. I always knew I needed 9 hrs of sleep and if I don't get it I will be sick but this all seemed normal to me. My DH kept saying he thought something was wrong and that our family stayed sick more than most, now I know why. Thankfully I went in to see if allergies were contributing to my problems and he tested me for IGA and it snowballed from there.

Wow, I so relate to what you said about rest and antibiotics! I've often said that I would have loved to live back in the 1800's, but that I would have died very young without antibiotics. I've also said that if I could only get over being tired all the time that I could really be productive, and most of my life I have needed 9 - 12 hours of sleep. I'm glad that you've found out what's making you sick. It feels overwhelming and really scary at times, but this group is very wonderful and they give you the tools to make it through the rough times.
