I want to come out. I want to come out really badly. I am tired of lying to my family and friends and not being true to myself. However, I feel as though I am in over my head.
I admitted to myself that I was probably a lesbian just recently. Throughout my life I always knew that there was something different about me, but I could never quite put a finger on it. I was raised in a pretty loving Christian family and I am still very heavily involved in my church. Of course, like most Christian denominations, being gay was not something that was accepted. It was even discussed in my youth group when I was in middle school that being gay was wrong and a sin. So naturally I tried to ignore the fact that I found girls attractive. I just figured everyone did. I knew that the "natural" thing was to be attracted to guys if you were a girl so I just figured that my close relationship with a male friend was what being in love was like.
I was 14 when I had my first boyfriend. I honestly thought I was attracted to him just like all of my friends were attracted to theirs. I had expectations for what it should be like, but it still felt wrong somehow. I wasn't sure though since I was so inexperienced. When that relationship ended, I was hurt, but not because he was no longer my boyfriend. I was sad that we had ruined our friendship in the process. After him I proceeded to date other guys. I had three more relationships, but none seemed to last anymore than a few months. I just couldn't stand when things got physical. I was uncomfortable and somewhat disgusted even by the thought of making out. I had such good guy friends and very few girls that I was close to. So I guess i just tried to find relationships among my closest friends (guys). But somehow it still didn't feel right.
This summer after my most recent relationship ended, I went into a deep depression. I couldnt figure out why things felt wrong as soon as we crossed the line from friends to boyfriend and girlfriend. I took long walks alone by myself to clear my mind. I did some soul searching and even tried changing religions. I was looking for acceptance, and I couldn't figure out why. I felt excluded. Some of this was a result of my last boyfriend's family. They were strict, conservative Christians and liked to persecute anyone who didn't fit the mould, including me, despite the fact that I was dating their son. I thought that that was the only reason I was feeling so excluded. However, I soon started to explore my feelings. I had always noticed pretty girls but I just thought it was because I wanted to be like them. I'd notice their faces and bodies and feel really excited. I wanted to be around them, and talk to them.
Then one day I realized I had the urge to kiss one of my only girl friends. I was immediately disgusted with myself. i tried to push the feelings back but they only seem to get stronger the more I fight them. I have dreams almost every night it seems about relationships with women. I cant seem to get these thoughts out of my head. My parents have noticed me being really distracted and down lately. But I have no idea how to tell them. I know that this would completely blindside them, and i dont want to hurt them. Its hurting me though not to tell them. I feel like I cant be myself.
I also started another relationship with a really close friend of mine who is a guy. I knew he liked me and I thought that I just hadn't found the right guy yet and that my feelings would change. However, they havent. Ive only become more attracted to girls, and I dont know what to do about it.
I feel so isolated, so stuck, and so nervous. I lead a group at my high school for Christians and coming out would ruin how everyone views me. I feel no problem with my religion. I want to stay a Christian when I do come out, but others are not as accepting. i dont know even where to begin. How do I tell my friends? How do I tell my parents? How to I tell my current boyfriend that Im leaving him because I like girls? How do I deal with my position as leader of the Christian group? How do I deal with the transition into college (im a senior in HS) as a lesbian? Where do I go from here?
Thanks for dealing with this super long rant and explanation. Please help me! I dont know who else to reach out to. Thanks! :)

Making steps in the right direction! Thanks!
That's awesome news! My Mom said the same thing to me and when it was time, it was hard to say but once I did I felt so much better. Now I'm able to talk to her about my feelings. Take it day by day...you'll know when it's time. Just don't be too nervous because she's right...she'll love you no matter what! Best of luck!
Anyway... Realize who you are and what you want. You can't choose who you are, You just can choose to hide it. Please don't do that. You're beautiful and deserves to be happy. Yes, you lose some people and maybe your position and Christian lead. But if you're asking them to respect you, you have to respect their believes too. Even if they think that what you are is a sin. They have all the right in the world to believe that, but they have the obligation to respect you still. Unfortunately, we can't have it all =/
If you have question about my stories and maybe my story about me coming out ot my family (wish me luck), go to my tumblr! I'll be glad to help! The girls from there are really helping me too.
Stay strong okay? It does get better!

In relation to the group you lead at school, and your activities at church, I won't sugar-coat this - things are most likely going to change. You will face challenges - and most likely judgments - that are going to be unwelcome and uncomfortable. This is unfortunate, but because of mistranslation and selective interpretation by a historically patriarchal society, many mainstream Christian religions believe homosexuality is against God. Nothing could be further from the truth, and if you like I can walk you through the details of that at another time. For now, suffice it to say that you will be looked down upon or looked at as a "now we have to save her" project. So you need to ready yourself for that before you make the move to come out.
That being said, what others think of you and how they change their behavior toward you is simply their problem - not yours. If you make peace with yourself, and you are confident in your relationship with God, that is all that matters. Let them say or do what they need to in order to distance themselves from this (which is what we do when we are frightened of something), and go on building your new life in a positive direction.
Once you are ready to accept what your new life might look like, and who might be absent from them due to their misinformed views, you will know you are ready to take the enormous step of coming out. Good luck and God bless.
My boyfriend and I broke up. I'm so happy I don't have to continue that lie. He doesn't know about me yet, we broke up cause we never talked and he was going out with another girl. So at least I'm free to explore other relationships.
Finally, I came out to my close friends and they were all super accepting. I even met this amazing girl at a school event who was gay. She helped me find the courage to come out. And I really like her. She has a girlfriend though. :-/ I'm just grateful for her friendship now. U never know where things might go. I'm definitely not trying to intrude on her relationship though. I wouldn't do that to anyone. It's a difficult situation. But... I'm so glad now that I don't have to hide. I'm going to come out to my parents for real soon. Maybe after I get things worked out for school next year. That way I'm already independent (they can't help me pay for school, I'm on my own). Again thanks for the advice. :-) I feel tons better now. It's great to just be able to be me.
And don't sweat the comment your mom made. Almost every coming out story I know has some version of it. It's just a defense mechanism, I think. ;o)
I'm so happy you made the decision to come out and actually stuck with it. Nothing is more amazing than the freedom to be who you are.
Welcome to the great, wide world of Outside the Closet! LOL
Told my mom tonight. It went really well. She argued with me at first but after a discussion and a few tears she seems to be on the road to accepting that I'm not straight. Turned out better than I expected. She even Invited the girl I'm casually dating over to meet! I'm telling my dad tmro morning and mom said she would help me. Thanks for the advice. It really helped a lot. Wish me luck! And thanks again everyone. :)
