I can come out to my close friends quite comfortably, although the prospect of doing that to my family scares me. I know they will be fine with it, as they are practically the opposite of conservative, pro to all sexuality and gender. Although I am still frightened, mainly of the question, 'Are you sure?' That they will most likely give me, especially as I'm only 14. I feel I will break down in tears, not answering the question properly.

you need to just tell them. On the question "Are you sure" that one is actually easier than you think. If you know deep down in every cell of your body that this is right, then just simply tell them that. If you aren't, then tell them No, you're not but right now its the path you feel you need to take, if later things change, then so be it. You don't need to fear that question. As long as you are secure in yourself and that what you are doing right now is right, then you never need to fear that question ever, in any situation. The question is nothing more than a 'grounding' question. It makes us consider the situation one more time, just in case. If we come to the same conclusion, then so be it. Kinda like going to buy a car. you really want a Black Camero with a sunroof, but all the dealership has is a Red one without.... You are getting ready to sign the papers on the one they have, but are you sure? One last check before you take the car and have no sunroof. Just be honest and tell them the truth. I get that question still. In my case I am transgender and transitioning. Every time something comes up that is progress the first question I get asked by about 4 people (friends and family) is, Are you sure? This makes me sit and think for a second before I do something that is permanent and irreversible. Its not that they think its a bad idea, they are looking to me to tell them why its the best one for me, that's all. Once I think about it, tell them why I am doing it, they are fine and its a normal day again. Not sure if all this helps you, but hopefully it does. I think you will do fine :D

You can make something dramatic, funny, that will make them smile. Then you you can come out in an even more dramatic way. Becuase this is a moment u will remember your whole life, and you will tell others your story. So u may as well have a good one. Plus, with all the drama u can make there will be less tension between u guys, so u would probably feel more comfortable. Dont worry about it. Also u should be greatful becuase many have homophobic parents or families, or families really strict on religion which can cause trouble. But if u said were true, ur lucky.

Ideas: if u like singing then sing a song. U like disigning? Maybe make an entrance to the living room where ull come out. U like acting? Maybe get a friend to act it out in some unique funny way. U like art? Maybe draw something to describe ur situation. Etc.
