Feeling Rejected? I guess...

Just a few days ago I told the first person that I was bisexual, my best friend. I decided to tell her first because she is very supportive of me and supports gay and lesbian relationships. I was really nervous, but when I finally told her, I wasn't expecting what she did. She just looked to the ground and nodded. She said that I was probably just going through a phase, but I know that isn't true. This was such a big thing for me, and now I feel lie she doesn't believe me. This really makes me nervous when I think about coming out to other people. She is my best friend and is there for me all the way, but I feel a little hurt that she didn't believe. She could have at least looked supportive. I said that I think I'm bi, and I think she didn't believe me because of that. I don't know if I should bring it up and tell her that I want her to accept me for who I am, or if I should just leave it as is. Can anybody help me or relate?

I am no expert not having been through it myself. However I do know that it can feel for your friend, especially if a close friend, that they are losing someone, the friend they thought they had. It can take time for them to realise they are not losing you. May be consider keeping contact but do not push the subject too much. Let you friend get used to the idea that your friendship does not have to change.
As I say I am no expert. Otbers with direct experience may have better advice. But that is what I think I would do. Show your friend that you really want to carry on being friends. Hope it helps. Best of luck and keep strong.

Hi I think your friend is in a state of denial or doesn't want to accept the truth u said. However the words saying "I think I am bi" that's not going to change the fact who u are. I would suggest that u please give her time. I have known people who are supportive of other LGBT but when it comes to their own backyard they are taken aback. Not that they don't like it but just that it's a phase that one has to grow into it. Don't take offense of her actions or reaction. If u are comfortable enough to share your truth with some close friends and family then go ahead. It's liberating.
