My girlfriend is out. Her parents know she's bi, and they know about me. Apparently when she told her mom, her mom replied that she already knew. My friend gave me a similar response when I came out to her, but the only explanation that she was able to give me for knowing was that I "act bi"...which I've never really gotten an elaboration on. >.>
Are you close to your mom? Are your mom and dad together or seperated? I ask these not for an answer but for something for you to consider. If you are close to your mom and your father lives there, there is a high probability that he will champion for you when it comes to your mom, who will be on the fence with her beliefs vs her love for you. The constant reaffirmation from your dad would reinforce her accepting that it is okay and you as a person have not changed at all. If you aren't close to your mom, it would be much harder for your dad to help you in that area, and if he is somewhere else, all but impossible. There will likely be some shock and some resistance from your mom, but i would like to think she will come around in time. For me my mom was my biggest ally in the family. I told her a good year before i told anyone else. I knew most of the family would be accepting even if they didn't understand, but i was still scared. When i decided to tell my niece, it snowballed from there and spread like a fire. Most calling my mom (benefit of my mom being the eldest in the family), she was able to put her say in, which was that to her the only thing that mattered was i was happy and she didn't have to worry about me anymore ( I was suicidal when i was younger, i don't think she ever really recovered from those attempts i made) so in a way she reaffirmed to them that it was okay, i was still me, just i was becoming a more honest me with everyone. Thats the only reason i wanted to bring those up. My case is a pretty obvious one. I mean i am changing names, attire, actions, everything, so you really can't hid it. With me being bi however, I can hide that as long as i choose and I choose who i tell and who i don't. If you arent' close to your mom, you don't really have to tell her if you don't want, if you are, then you can in your own time. Just don't want you to think that it is something that the whole world needs to know. I know there are lots out there who do feel that way about it, but you are free to choose who you will tell and not.
