Coma Support Group
A coma is a profound state of unconsciousness. A comatose patient cannot be awakened, fails to respond normally to pain or light, does not have sleep-wake cycles, and does not take voluntary actions. Coma may result from a variety of conditions, including intoxication, metabolic abnormalities, central nervous system diseases, and hypoxia.
Afterwards I had to learn everything overnew, including to talk , which was my biggest frustration, read, write, eat (and pottytrain, which is quite embarrassing) .
Another big part of my training was to get manners. This may sound weird, but I had no filter and would say and do whatever came to my head. I am still learning what I can and cant say and ask, actually.
I still have some disabilities (left side doesnt work), but they are due to actual brain and nerve damage and wont get much beter as it is now.
I lost about three years of memory, which at my age (21) sucks, because it includes how i met my boyfriend (although I did remember him, but him being at my bed everyday might have something to do with that) and meeting lots of people all over the world , who dont mean anything to me now.
I had to learn to trust again.
I still have some difficulty understanding "big" words and totally dont get sarcasm and humor, because I take thing literally.
I get tired easy, especially mentally.
I have been trying way to hard and although everybody, including doctors, where impressed, it led to a breakdown. Ive been in a mental hospital recently just to rest and fuel up actually. I always have been extremely positive but now I tend to get gloomy at times. I attempted suicide. But overall, Im doing just fine.
What your husband will need when he wakes up, is that you are extremely patient with him and dont mind to repeat things a hundred times. My boyfriend has been an absolute ace at this, as well as his parents (I live in with them).
They say it is a bit like how you would act with a foreign child or a puppy....
Being very physical helped me (I cuddle up with my boyfriends dad a lot, for instance) get to raw times and bad feelings, but not everybody is cuddly, ofcourse. You will have to find out.
Then, unfortunately, his heart gave out on January 1. Too many months in a hospital bed, years of high blood pressure. . . I am glad I at least got a glimmer of him before he was gone.
