Would like to attend bro n laws wedding...

My brother in law just got engaged and planning a wedding in San Francisco and we live in San Diego. My treatment is for 6 mos which began last week. I was wondering how long after your last treatment did you felt well enough to travel long distances? I know things can come up where chemo has to be postponed for a number of reasons. Did give him(bil) heads up in case we're unable make it. Thanks in advance for reading/ sharing.

I was months into my chemo and asked to skip a week to go to my nieces birthday party in Baltimore which is about 5 hours from me. I started chemo the last week in April, and this was in August, I felt fine, it was a great distraction. My onc told me at the beginning that he could hold a week if I had ever wanted to go on vacation, but would only do it once, I say go if your doc allows.

Oh I am sorry read your question wrong, I actually went away twice after my chemo was through, I went like two weeks after, then I went to Niagra Falls about five weeks after, felt great.

Hi hun you might be able to go even having chemo, i started my chemo in the may for 6 months, and my treatment was two weeks on and one week off. My oncologist gave me an extra week off in the July and i flew to Marjorca Balaeric islands off spain for two weeks, (i live in the UK) You,ve just started your treatment so its too early to make plans. Everyone reacts differently but most people dont have side effects so bad that you cant have a break, good luck with the treatment by the way.

The first type of chemo ( Folfox 5 snd oxyplant) my husband was 'down' for a week and able to get out after that. This new chemo we are trying doesnt have him down at all. Hes a bit tired but it isnt bad enough to stop activity. His doc also said if we make any plans to let him know. He will skip a treatment for us to do things out of town, however our doc doesnt reccomend skipping more than one treatment. I think it depends on which treatment you are on as to how long it will take you to feel able to travel. Hope this helps.

During my chemo there was a family reunion and the MD let me skip a week. I was tired but amazingly able to do ok. It did a great deal to boost my spirits.
After chemo was over, I was pretty subdued both physically and emotionally had a hard time getting back into the social scene. But within a month, I was my old self.

Thanks everyone for your reply. It's good to know I'd be able to skip a week. I'm on folfox/oxi every other week with pump for first 46 hrs. Bil changed without an actual date to 4 mos from now. I never liked long distance driving( anything more than 4hrs). And don't want to fly in a germ ridden airbus. Feel very insecure when unable to plan things ahead of time. Like where my family of 4 will stay, etc. maybe just annoyed that BIL keeps changing time frame. Now I'm being selfish bc I want to plan a staycation.
