All these pathways... I hope so too.

I just shot an e mail and link to both Oncologists. I ll report back if I get any feedback. Nice to know if they are aware of some of these new possibilities . I find they don't tend to like to hear about them from a patient. But, tough cookies...I don't like to hear there are no more options than what we've been offered either. A little bitter, received a sad e mail from my first pal in the chemo room. She is not doing well.
I think our passing information globally through this site is amazing.

This is the response from my doc at Stanford:
hello margeaux,

glad to hear you've completed your therapy and are getting back to normal living. We are also interested in intestinal stem cell research and finding molecular targets that might be shared between the intestinal stem cells and cancer "stem" cells. In fact we have our first trial opening up using a stem cell target for cancer. However, I don't think the gleevec will be the answer as I'm afraid its more complicated than that. Gleevec has been tried in colorectal cancer without any demonstrable success thus far. Since it does have some toxicities, I don't think it will ever catch on as a treatment for polyps (too many people would have to be treated for too many years to benefit the few who would otherwise develop polyps).
