Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
So, I went in for my post chemo colonoscopy and this 30 something nurse asks "Are you over 50?" I just answered "no"...Really? I'm 43! Then while on a gourney another nusrse asks " which arm is better to stick you?" I say, I've never been told I am a hard stick (especially with the many lab work ive had to do). The nurse couldn't get through so I had to get stuck again by a different nurse. Why do some nurses blame our anatomy when they can't stick you? or say that " your port is too deep", why don't they just apologize and try again?
Then the doctor comes in and asks "why did your doctor order the endoscopy/colonoscopy on you?" By this time, I was already sedated, otherwise, I would have yelled back "why don't you read my frickin chart! This is a scheduled appointment, not an ER visit!"
Anyway, I am all clear, yay! and I am making sure I don't schedule any future colonoscopy with that doctor.

come to find out there is only one nurse in that dept that could access a port correctly. The one time I was waiting for about a half hour because she had to do an emergency situation at the hospital connected to the clinic...I am finished with treatment and have had my port removed now. But still they need to train the nurses in the Lab dept better.
