Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.

Saw my surgeon today for my annual check up and was glad to hear all was clear, This now means I am six years post surgery and he states I have less than 1% chance of the original cancer returning. This was good news to this old bloke.

Have to have a colonoscopy in Feb next year and he states if that is clear then I will go to every 3 years for a colonoscopy which is also great news.

Without doubt a big part of my recovery has been the support I have received from people on this site and the willingness to share their journey. Many have inspired my along the way and a few have brought a tear to my eye.

Aww...G8 what wonderful news you bring. The Good Lord definitely has his angels circling about you. Many many big hugs and continued well wishes to you from this stateside Yankee gal... love ya my friend. Please extend hugs to the family.

Thats great news! I am only a one year survivor as of March. So I have a ways to go. But hearing this does help me to think long term about everything.

Congratulations to you on your 6th anniv!! And to Coogee on her 5th! I remember 4 years ago at just this time of year you two helped me get thru some scary times with radiation and surgery ( & got me involved in the Carlton vs Magpies rivalry too:-).

Thanks for sharing your recovery journey it has been a source of hope and inspiration along my path as well

PS - have cleared the yearly scans, next up is the colonoscopy ... will let you know

I agree with plainjen. You, G8, have been there for all of us, even when you probably didn't even need to be on this site anymore. You have been here purely for others.
