Hello, I am new here and started folfox therapy a month ago. Wanted to know if anybody has been able to exercise, mainly run or walk, while going through chemo? I have been able so far to walk most days and run on some. I do have fatigue but it's mild most days and I just push through it and feel much better afterwards. I have had mild side effects so far, most while I have the pump connected and the two days after disconnect.
I am working full time, do get more tired than usual, I have to walk quite a bit at work, I am a network support technician so I don't stay put. I do like that I have to walk around because it makes me feel better at the end of the day but I do have to take a break more often now. I just wanted to know if there are others who were able to workout throughout the chemo treament or did it get worse towards the end? I have not been to the gym because of my immune system being weak and there is a good chance I may catch something there but running really helps me clear my mind and feel more energized. I am also eating way healthier than before, I may loose muscle mass because I am not lifting but at least my cardio will not suffer. I walked while hooked to the pump but slept for about an hour afterwards then woke up energized.
I don't have the tingling sensation yet or cold sensitivity yet, no metal taste, dry mouth or sores. I do know that I don't crave certain foods I love and don't really feel hungry but do make myself eat. No nausea or vomiting, have not taken any meds for it and hopefully I won't have to, hate putting more chemicals in my system. I am a man of faith and I really believe God is carrying me through this and why I am able to handle it well so far. Please do share your stories, I want to know how to proceed if anything should change but I have faith that I will be able to complete this journey without major setbacks. God bless!
It's been 5 years since chemo for me. From what I can remember (can I still use 'chemobrain' excuse?lol) I made several attempts, but either the pump got in the way or I felt it might be strain on my heart and lungs (I'm a paranoid person), so I didn't run, just walked almost every day outdoors, not at work kind of walk cos I put myself on disability as I did not want to be around people in an enclosed building. But that's just me:)
