Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from mushroom-like growths that are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy.
I posted here before my surgery 8-2-11. Thank you again for the info at that time. I do not have cancer, I can'r find any other support group for this, is it OK to ask my questions here?
I spent 9 days in the hospital, I have 6 incisions, one long 14 inches from above the navel all the way down, one 8 inch across the right, 4 small 2 on each side.
The reason for this surgery was one 3cm benign polyp. The path report shows that the surgeon also removed 8 lymphnodes, a large piece of mesentary, cecum and valve.
I am having more pain now than I did the first couple of weeks after the surgery, anybody know why? I had to go back to the hospital 3 weeks after the surgery because of Ileus, small bowel obstruction. There are surgical clips in my abdomen, will they cause any problems?

I don't understand the staples? Are they inside or outside? If outside it is a simple removal. (If they are inside I don't see how they can get to them without opening you up again.)
I ask about the cecum as my surgeon explained if he had to remove it I would have more problems with my stools and that is where the one polyp was they could not get too.
I just had a colonoscopy and all was well, even the cecum. The poylp there was non-cancerous so it was a matter of ablating it and maybe do it again during this colonoscopy, but it was gone and all was well.
I don't really know what all your surgeon needed to do, but from what you have stated it sounds to me like 'over-kill' But I feel he had his reasons?! Maybe if you could explain a bit more.
I had very intense surgery and ended up with a colostomy. I knew I would, there was just no way around it. I even went to a sphincter saving surgeon and he said he could not/ would not do it. (I would have problems the rest of my life with BM movements)

The cecum, ileocecal valve and the other stuff was removed. Before the surgery he told me that he will just remove a piece of the cecum were were the polyp is. He is a general surgeon with lots of experience with colon I was told. I had a total of $ 8,450 staples and clips on my hospiral bill. The outside staples(incisions) were removed. The surgical clips are inside the abdomen. He denies he put them in there when the xrays showed them. I can not get a surgical report from him. I got most of the info from the pathology report that lists everything he removed. My last follow-up visit with him was a disaster, he does not answer any questions. I am having so much pain in the lower right side.
Pat, is that you cat? I love cats, I have 2, they have been so much comfort.
Do any of you have surgical clips that were left in the abdomen?
I also have Lupus and should not have any metal in my body.
The doc who did the colonoscopy in 2010 and 11 claimed he removed a 15mm polyp in 2010 and a year later there is the 3 cm polyp that he said needs to be removed by a surgeon. Interesting enough when the gastro put in his report in 2010 that he removed that 15mm polyp only 1mm was sent to pathology.
It is bad enough to go through this surgery, now the stress of dealing with this situation, the surgeon who is rude as hell and trying to find a different gastro, nobody whats to see you," stay with the old one."

Get a second opinion as it seems there are issues that raise a lot of concerns that are not being addressed.
I'm just sorry you are in such distress and I hope you have needed answers very soon.
You may want to consult with a medical liability attorney to see if malpractice was an issue here.

There was more to my procedure, but after a biopsy the ablation is burned off with different methods, i.e. lazor etc.
This polyp was flat and sort of carpeted the cecum (according to the surgeon) making it impossible to snare.
All is well with it now though according to my last colonoscopy a couple of months ago.
